Guy Ritchie several times. He has become the face of several franchises, including the Transporter movies, the Crank films, and as an ensemble member in The Expendables franchise. He has also acted as Deckard Shaw in the Fast and Furious franchise.
Statham's films tend to do well at the box office. As a leading actor, his films have made over $1.9 billion collectively, and he tacks on over $4 billion if one counts his work as a lead ensemble member. Several of his highest-grossing films include Fast and Furious movies along with The Meg, which made $527 million. Later this month, Statham will star in A Working Man, where he will play a construction worker who helps seek justice when a local girl goes missing. As audiences await this release, a Statham film from a decade ago is finding success on streaming.
Spy Is Doing Well On Streaming
Jason Statham Plays CIA Agent Rick Ford
Spy is doing well on the streaming charts 10 years later. The 2015 Paul Feig-directed action movie stars Melissa McCarthy as a CIA analyst who goes undercover to stop a deadly arms dealer from enacting a global disaster. Statham plays macho CIA agent Rick Ford in the slapstick comedy, which also features Jude Law, Sam Richardson, and Rose Byrne. Spy received positive reviews, getting a 95% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also made a sizable profit, grossing $235.6 million against a $65 million budget.
A decade after it premiered in theaters, Spy is gaining popularity on the streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol, the film came in at no. 8 on the Peacock Top 10 Movies in the United States today, March 10. It fell behind The Wild Robot, Conclave, Nosferatu, Hitpig!, The Equalizer 2, Sing 2, and The Equalizer, but came in ahead of I'll Be Right There and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
Our Take On Spy's Streaming Success
This Is Good News For Statham
With a comedy icon like McCarthy at the fore and Statham in a key ing role, Spy is a pretty appealing project to audiences. Its Peacock resurgence is especially good news for Statham, however, who is just under three weeks away from the release of his next action movie. If Spy cues further interest and awareness of Statham, this could be a good boost for A Working Man at the box office upon its March 28 release date.

Statham is not the only member of the Spy team with a project coming out this year. Director Feig is also helming the sequel movie Another Simple Favor, which is set for release on May 1. While the Simple Favor movies are in no way identical to the McCarthy-led comedy, they share some similar comedic tones set against their crime and action backdrops. As such, the renewed interest in Feig's comedy style is good news for this movie as well.
Mae Abdulbaki wrote ScreenRant's review of Another Simple Favor from SXSW 2025, scoring it a 6/10.
What This Could Mean For The Rumored Spy Sequel
Spy 2 Is More Likely To Happen Now
Albeit 10 years delayed, the resurgence of Spy on the streaming charts also means that Spy 2 could finally happen. After the success of the first film, Feig reportedly started writing a sequel pretty immediately, noting that the action film was "a world [he didn't] want to walk away from." Since then, however, the project has been slow to develop, leaving fans with few updates surrounding the film. If audiences keep watching Spy on Peacock, however, the narrative regarding Spy 2 could shift.
In some ways, bringing back Rick Ford for a Spy sequel would resonate even better today. Set in a satirical universe, Ford is a parody of the macho man action movie stereotype, a joke which is even funnier with Statham playing the role, given his origins playing those very types of parts. In the time since the Feig film originally came out, Statham has played even more of those types of parts, doing so again this year with A Working Man. Spy 2 could further lean into this parody, making this the best time to ride the first film's success wave and make a sequel.
