The chances of a James Gunn's Superman movie releases, that confidence seems to be translating into a continuation of the story set up for David Corenswet's Clark Kent, at least in a way, as Gunn shared an exciting Superman movie sequel update.
Speaking with DCU's Chapter One. Now, Gunn confirms that it will be a sequel to David Corenswet's Superman movie. However, it will seemingly not be a straightforward one, as Gunn says it will not necessarily be just Superman 2. Check out the full quote below:
"What I'm working on is in some way…I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up Superman sequel? I would not say necessarily."
What James Gunn's Superman 2 Comments Mean
The Man Of Steel's DCU Future Is Bright
Gunn's comments sure are interesting. Based on the positive response to every new Superman movie trailer and reveal, it seems like DC has a hit on its hands. That is why Gunn jumping into a Superman sequel for the DCU would be a logical move, even though it could be seen as an early one, as Batman's The Brave and the Bold film and DCU movie timeline.

I Hope James Gunn's Superman Being “Weak” Doesn't Lead To DC Repeating A Divisive Clark Kent Story For The Third Time In 9 Years
The Superman movie trailers have led to debates about the DCU hero being weak, and that could lead to a dark Clark Kent story trend being repeated.
While Gunn confirmed that his next DCU movie is a sequel to Superman, it might be more so in of story or including the lead character than revolving only around the Man of Steel. Elsewhere in the interview, Gunn teased that the Justice League is part of his plans for the DCU's Chapter One. By teasing how his next project is not just a straightforward Superman movie sequel, he could mean it is a team-up that spins out of the film. A Justice League movie with Superman in a prominent role or a World's Finest with Batman suits that.
Our Take On James Gunn's Superman 2 Comments
The New DC Universe Needs To Use Superman As Much As Possible
One of my biggest issues with the old DCEU was how Henry Cavill's Man of Steel was mostly sidelined by the franchise. I need the DCU to make David Corenswet's Superman a key part of the franchise beyond his debut, and with Gunn, DC Studios' creative chief, already working on a sequel of sorts to his Superman movie, I'm convinced that my wishes for the character will be made a reality. Based on how Gunn described the possible Superman sequel, I believe he is working on a team-up movie starring Superman and at least one other DCU hero.
