TV show created by Sheridan and John Linson has been Sheridan's breakthrough, and ever since its premiere in 2018, the filmmaker has created and produced six series for Paramount. Among them are two Yellowstone spinoffs (1883 and 1923), Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Soon, Sheridan will be able to add Landman to that list.
Yellowstone season 5, part 2 premieres on Sunday, November 10, at 8 pm ET on Paramount Network, and Landman debuts one week later on Sunday, November 17, on Paramount+.
Landman, based on Christian Wallace's 11-part Boomtown podcast, stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a crisis executive at an oil company in West Texas. Sheridan's drama TV show follows Thornton's Tommy and the ever-changing landscape of the world of oil rigs, from the higher-ups to the ones on the ground at said oil rigs. While Landman might sound and look like Yellowstone on the outside, its trailer and everything else known about it suggests that the series will differ greatly from the previously Kevin Costner-led neo-Western show.
Why Landman Is Dubbed The Next Yellowstone
Landman Is Set In West Texas
Since Taylor Sheridan's next TV show has the same neo-Western vibes as Yellowstone (at least, based on Yellowstone season 5, part 2's release, making it easier to compare the two.

Perhaps at first glance, Yellowstone centers around the Dutton family and their struggle to maintain the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and their power in the community.
Landman's Title Hints It's About One Person (Yellowstone Isn't)
Yellowstone Follows The Entire Dutton Family
Landman's name suggests that its story mainly focuses on one person (Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy Norris), while the heart of Yellowstone is the Dutton family and their land in Montana. As a result, Yellowstone has an ensemble cast, while Landman has a central protagonist. One could argue that Kevin Costner's John Dutton III is/was the neo-Western drama's only main character. However, with Costner gone starting in season 5, part 2, and considering Yellowstone's history, the show undoubtedly has more than one main character, from Kelly Reilly's Beth Dutton to Cole Ha's Rip Wheeler.

Yellowstone Season 5's Dutton Family War Has A Very Obvious Winner
The Dutton family war between Beth and Jamie is expected to come to a head in Yellowstone season 5, part 2, but its winner is quite predictable.
Of course, Landman's cast contains plenty of big names in addition to Thornton, like Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, and Ali Larter. But, none of their characters are the "Landman" — Thornton's Tommy is. So, that is another example of how Taylor Sheridan's next Paramount TV series differs from Yellowstone and how many shouldn't expect Landman to be the perfect replacement for the highly successful and popular neo-Western drama.
Landman Is More Similar To Sheridan's Other Shows Than Yellowstone
Taylor Sheridan's Next Show Is Comparable To Tulsa King & Mayor Of Kingstown
While many are busy comparing Landman to Yellowstone, they should be likening the Billy Bob Thornton-led series to two other Taylor Sheridan projects — Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown. Both TV shows (which also air on Paramount+) also feature titular characters. In Tulsa King, Sylvester Stallone's Dwight "The General" Manfredi is the "Tulsa King," and Jeremy Renner's Mike McLusky is considered the Mayor of Kingstown in his respective series.
Landman will hopefully cement its place in Sheridan's impressive TV catalog and become its own separate story incomparable to anything that came before it.
Plus, Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown have thriller elements, which Landman also seemingly contains. Ultimately, Landman will hopefully cement its place in Sheridan's impressive TV catalog and become its own separate story incomparable to anything that came before it. In the meantime, Yellowstone fans shouldn't expect Landman to be a carbon copy of the original series, but they should anticipate it to include recognizable elements of Sheridan's writing style.

Set in West Texas, this series explores the world of oil rigs and the fortunes they create. It portrays a modern upstairs/downstairs narrative of roughnecks and billionaires, highlighting the profound impact on the climate, economy, and geopolitics in these boomtowns.
