It's a well-known fact now that Taylor Swift has been re-recording and re-releasing her first six albums as what she's called her Taylor's Versions. Swift began this project as a response to the rights to her old music, or her masters, being sold away from her roughly six years ago. In an effort to reclaim her old work, Swift used the rights she still had to the compositions of her old music to re-record her albums and create new versions.

Now, however, Swift has revealed in a heartfelt letter on her official Taylor Swift website that she has finally bought her old music back. After "20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away," Swift has reached a deal with Shamrock Capital that gives her the rights to everything: her albums, her music videos, her imagery, and more. This comes before her final two re-recordings, reputation (Taylor's Version) and Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version) have even arrived, marking a huge victory for Swift that has her "bursting into tears of joy."

What Taylor Swift Buying Back Her Masters Means For Her Music Future

This Is A Victory For Her & The Greater Industry

First and foremost, this is a major win for Swift, and as a result, a major win for the greater music industry. Swift has persevered long and hard to prove how much her music means to her, to the point of spending so much time re-recording and re-releasing her first six albums just so she would be able to own some form of them again. Her resilience that has since led to this deal being made proves to other artists and the greater industry what standing up for yourself can lead to, and that's an absolutely priceless victory.

Of course, for many fans, there's another major question that's lingering. If Swift owns her old albums again, then will she continue to finish her Taylor's Version project with the last two albums, reputation (Taylor's Version) and Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version)? Thankfully for those fans, Swift has already spoken to this in the open letter she wrote to her fans on her website.

Swift Has Spoken About Their Fate

Swift dedicated an entire paragraph in her lengthy letter to the future of her last two re-recordings, particularly reputation (Taylor's Version). There's no doubt that fans have been the most hype for this one; the Swifties have, on multiple occasions, theorized that an announcement would be imminent, only for things to fall through as Swift remained silent. Swift was honest in revealing that she only has a quarter of the album re-recorded as it is, due to her constantly pausing the process - as the original felt too grounded in the era during which she recorded it.

Swift did, however, insist that if the fans are interested, then she would at least attempt to finish and release the "From the Vault" tracks for reputation (Taylor's Version). As for Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version), Swift has revealed that the album is already complete, and she's pleased with how it turned out - and, again, if fans still want it, then she is more than willing to release it. Despite what she chooses to do with these re-recordings, what matters most is that Taylor Swift has fought the hard battle to get her original music again, and that's worth celebrating.
