Terminator 2: Judgment Day, one of the best sequels ever made, which served to make Terminator a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. While the actual movies have seen severe ups and downs since then, the overall multimedia franchise has never really abated.
Terminator has lent its branding, characters, and overall universe to just about every type of tie-in one can imagine, from TV shows, to video games, to novels, to comic books, to theme park rides, to board games, and more. Fans can't seem to get enough Terminator-related products either, with most of those tie-ins earning big sales. Even if none of the movies have matched T2 in quality, the draw of the Terminator world is a strong one.
It's as part of these various expanded universe materials that the Terminator franchise has managed to crossover with lots of other notable creations, including some that seem like natural fits, and others that are sure to make many question what those involved were thinking. Here's every time the Terminator franchise ventured into someone else's territory.
Shinobi
We begin the list with a crossover guaranteed to make most do a double take. The Terminator crossed over with the old Sega video game series Shinobi? Well, yes and no. A boss character that's quite obviously supposed to be Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800 appears in the 1989 sequel The Revenge of Shinobi. However, it doesn't seem to be an officially licensed inclusion, and it's a bit surprising Sega didn't get a call from James Cameron's lawyers.
Wayne's World
In a fun bit of meta humor in the classic 1992 comedy Robert Patrick's T-1000 from Terminator 2. He asks Wayne if he's seen a boy, John Connor-style, but the boy pictured is actually Myers as a child, adding an extra layer to his terrified reaction.
RoboCop
If there was ever a logical opponent for fans to want to see a Terminator fight, it's Mortal Kombat 11.
Superman
Now, here's a crossover few would've probably expected to happen, but happen it did, in a four-part comic book series released in the year 2000. Not only does Superman encounter Terminators, but also Sarah and John Connor, and an evil cyborg version of Superman even shows up. Superman ends up traveling forward through time post-Judgment Day, and it's revealed that Lex Luthor invested in Skynet, because of course he did that.
Alien
The same year the Terminator franchise crossed over with Superman, it also saw Alien: Resurrection, and actually includes the Ripley 8 enhanced clone. John Connor also appears, or at least a recording of him does long enough to explain things to Ripley 8 and Call.
Predator
As mentioned, the Predator also plays a part in the above three-way brawl comic book, and the creatures are keenly interested in Ripley 8, thanks to her genetic make-up including within it Xenomorph DNA. Interestingly, Ripley 8 ends up sacrificing herself to neutralize the Terminator threat. One wonders if the T-800s look a bit familiar to the Predators though, thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger's presence in both franchises.
Painkiller Jane
Before Painkiller Jane was a short-lived TV show on Syfy - starring Terminator 3's Kristanna Loken, for added serendipity - the character starred in her own comic book, and in 2007, a four-issue crossover of Painkiller Jane and the Terminator series took place. The story is set after Terminator 3, and features a John Connor dealing with the death of Kate Brewster.
The Ring
In perhaps the oddest crossover involving the Terminator franchise to date, Universal Studios Japan facilitated a blending of the T-800 and Sadako from The Ring series. Unlike the Universal theme parks in America, Japan still has their Terminator 2 3D: Battle Across Time attraction open, and during Halloween Horror Nights, the show is often invaded by Sadako, in a truly bizarre mashup. At least Sadako is nice enough to give her targets a week before she terminates them.
WWE
It's well-known that Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger is a big fan of professional wrestling, and is even an inductee in WWE's hall of fame celebrity wing. In 2015, the year that Triple H's WrestleMania entrance was Terminator themed, complete with Schwarzenegger video cameo. That fall, the WWE 2K16 video game included two playable versions of the T-800 as part of a pre-order bonus pack.
Gears of War
In the hit Xbox One video game Gears 5, an entry in the popular Terminator: Dark Fate in the mix. The first pack contained a playable Sarah Connor and a T-800 endoskeleton, while the second pack added Mackenzie Davis' enhanced human protector Grace and the new Rev-9 model Terminator to players' options.
Mortal Kombat
As mentioned above regarding the T-800 tangling with Robocop, Arnold Schwarzenegger's signature Terminator model was a playable guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 11. The Mortal Kombat games have a long tradition of including characters from horror and sci-fi movies on their DLC roster at this point.
Transformers
In the most recent instance of Terminator crossing over with another franchise, a four-part comic book series saw Skynet's forces duke it out with the inhabitants of Cybertron. While it makes sense that the Autobots would stand up to Terminators, the Decepticons also aren't fans, as they see Skynet as competition.
