Franchise fare aside, Fassbender is also a highly acclaimed actor. His performance as the plantation owner Edwin Epps in 2013's 12 Years a Slave earned him an Oscar nomination for Best ing Actor, and his turn as the titular co-founder of Apple in 2015's Steve Jobs earned him another Academy Award nomination, this time for a Best Actor in a Leading Role. Best known for film, Fassbender hasn't appeared on television very much, though some of his early roles were in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and Sky One fantasy drama Hex.

Michael Fassbender's new spy series, The Agency, debuts with a poor Rotten Tomatoes score. Created by the Butterworth brothers, based on the acclaimed French series The Bureau, Showtime's espionage thriller is centered around a covert agency tasked with training and managing deep-cover operatives who assume false identities for years. Michael Fassbender leads The Agency cast alongside Jodie Turner-Smith, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Hugh Bonneville, and Harriet Sansom Harris.

Now, ahead of its premiere in just a few days, Michael Fassbender's spy series has debuted to a poor Rotten Tomatoes score. The Agency debuted with a 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. This is based on only 7 reviews at the time of writing, so the score should fluctuate as more are added.

What The Agency's Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For The Series

It's Certainly Not A Good Sign

The show's Rotten Tomatoes score is a result of reviews criticizing its slow pacing, lack of emotional depth, and inability to deliver compelling action or intrigue. Screen Rant's Felipe Rangel diverts from the critical consensus, giving the series 7 out of 10 stars and stating in his review of The Agency that "it does not reinvent the wheel, but it offers a great turn from Michael Fassbender in the lead role and a few intriguing mysteries to unravel." While The Agency's viewership will ultimately determine its fate, its RT score is certainly not a good sign for Michael Fassbender's series.

The Agency premieres November 29 on Paramount+ with Showtime.
