The soundtrack to Alex Proyas' gothic superhero film the comics on which The Crow movie was based.

The inclusion of songs by 80s post-punk groups the Cure and Joy Division is particularly notable. Writer James O'Barr devoted a whole page of the comic to the lyrics of "The Hanging Garden", while the chapters "Atmosphere" and "Atrocity Exhibition" took their titles from Joy Division songs. Just as the soundtrack to The Crow 2024 features original music by FKA twigs, the 1994 version included songs written specifically for the film, such as The Cure’s “Burn”. The contribution of such notable groups led The Crow’s soundtrack album to become an influential chart-topper.

How Bill Skarsgård’s The Crow Compares to Brandon Lee’s

Bill Skarsgård is the latest actor to play Eric Draven, and this version of The Crow is drastically different than Brandon Lee's.

When Every Song On The Crow 1994's Soundtrack Plays In The Movie

There Are 14 Songs On The Crow's Soundtrack

"Big Empty" by Stone Temple Pilots: Setting the mood for the rest of the film, this mellow bluesy track plays as the T-Bird gang drives through the streets of Detroit, bragging about their deeds. Responsible for the murders of Draven and his fiancee, Shelley, the scene establishes T-Bird and his followers as The Crow's antagonists.

"Slip Slide Melting" by For Love Not Lisa: This second, more uptempo song plays as gang T-Bird, Funboy, Tin Tin and Skank gather to celebrate Devil's Night, taking turns swallowing bullets. Sarah's mother, Darla, serves the gang drinks.

"Burn" by The Cure: The Cure's original song plays as Eric applies his iconic make-up and costume, completing his transformation into The Crow.

"Dead Souls" by Nine Inch Nails: This track accompanies the soaring flight of the crow as it guides Eric to his first victim, Tin Tin. Nine Inch Nails cover the Joy Division song of the same name, originally the B-Side to the more famous "Atmosphere".

"Time Baby II" by Medicine: Medicine make a cameo appearance in the film performing onstage in the night club below Top Dollar's headquarters. It was re-recorded for the soundtrack album, where it appears as "Time Baby III" and features guest vocals by the Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser.

"Snakedriver" by The Jesus and Mary Chain: The Jesus and Mary song can be heard when Sarah catches her estranged mother, Darla, kissing Funboy. She confronts the pair, and Darla tries to bribe her daughter to get her to leave the club.

"Color Me Once" by Violent Femmes: Sarah instead stays and is offered a root beer by the concerned bartender. As she watches Darla and Funboy go upstairs, Violent Femmes' "Color Me Once" is playing on the jukebox.

"Ghostrider" by Rollins Band: The Rollins Band song can be heard in the background as Grange and T-Bird inform Top Dollar that Gideon's Pawn Shop has been burned down. It is a cover of the 1977 Suicide song based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The reference is fitting: Marvel's supernatural avenger who sold his soul to the devil has a lot in common with The Crow's protagonist.

"Golgotha Tenement Blues" by Machines of Loving Grace: "Golgotha Tenement Blues" plays as the film returns to Darla and Fun Boy. The crow flies through their open window, followed by Draven, who taunts Fun Boy by allowing him to shoot him multiple times before getting his revenge.

"Milktoast" (Also known as "Milquetoast") by Helmet: The song by alternative metal band Helmet is playing downstairs in the bar as Gideon demands another drink. The gang is unaware of what has happened upstairs, until the sight of Darla fleeing The Pit leads Grange to investigate.

"The Badge" by Pantera: "The Badge" is Pantera's heavy metal cover of the song originally recorded by punk rock group Poison Idea. It's a fitting choice as the film approaches its brutal climax. Unconvinced by Gideon's warning about Eric, Top Dollar kills him.

"Darkness" by Rage Against the Machine: The re-recording of "Darkness of Greed" plays as Albrecht and Sarah meet at the hotdog stand and discuss the fact that they have both seen Eric that night.

"After the Flesh" by My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult: My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult are the second band to make a live cameo appearance in The Crow. Their performance onstage in provides the soundtrack to the bloodbath that ensues when Eric interrupts Top Dollar's meeting. He narrowly escapes the shootout as the police arrive.

"It Can't Rain All the Time" by Jane Siberry: Jane Silberry's hauntingly beautiful love ballad marks a tonal shift as The Crow draws to a close. Having completed his task, Eric is reunited with Shelly's spirit and can finally return to rest. The song was written especially for The Crow by Silberry and composer Graeme Revell, taking its title from a quote in the film. Silberry's version features in the credits, but an orchestral version plays throughout.

"Big Empty" by Stone Temple Pilots: The Stone Temple Pilots song doesn't actually feature in the film, but is the second song to play during the end credits. The band originally wanted to submit a re-recording of an earlier song titled "Only Dying". After Brandon Lee's tragic death during filming, the band decided to submit "Big Empty" instead.
