Meryl Streep is one of the most beloved and decorated actors of all time. She holds the record for the most acting Oscar nominations of all time, with 21 nominations to her name. The majority of these Oscar nominations have come from her leading roles, as she has provided elevated dramatic performances for films such as Postcards from the Edge, Doubt, and The Post. Out of these copious nominations, she has taken home the award three times — for Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice, and The Iron Lady.

In the more recent years of her career, Streep has shifted her attention more towards comedy than she has in the past. She is a recurring guest star on the caper comedy Only Murders in the Building, and recently appeared on the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special in her first-ever SNL sketch. This SNL50 appearance was the talk of the internet, as people loved her role as Kate McKinnon's mother in the "Close Encounter" reunion sketch. Now, Streep's movie from almost two decades ago is finding a new life on streaming.

Our Take On The Devil Wears Prada's Success

Streep's SNL Appearance Likely Caused This

Meryl Streep SNL50 in the Close Encounters sketch

The Devil Wears Prada has always been a fan favorite, so it is in some ways no surprise that this movie would do well on streaming. That said, it is most likely Streep herself that is carrying the film to such victory. While she has been a beloved actor for years, her appearance on SNL50 included a reference to the movie. As such, a wider variety of viewers have likely been cued to watch Streep's work, leading to The Devil Wears Prada's streaming reemergence.
