A Simple Favor sequel. Sweeney recently starred in the horror movie Immaculate, Sony's Madame Web, and the romantic comedy Anyone But You, while Seyfried's more recent projects include her starring role in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room and the Hulu series The Dropout.
As per Lionsgate, Sweeney and Feig have finalized their deals for The Housemaid and Seyfried is in the final stages of negotiations. Sweeney will play Millie, a young woman who is a recently hired housemaid looking for a new beginning. Seyfried plays Nina, who, along with her wealthy husband, Andrew, have dangerous secrets. Rebecca Sonnenshine is writing the script that adapts the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden. Check out the comments from Lionsgate Motion Picture Group's co-president Erin Westerman below:
The Housemaid is a certified phenomenon with over a year on the New York Times Bestsellers list, millions of copies sold, and a place on numerous critics’ choice lists. Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina – they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away. We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favor and its sequel, and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.
What This Means For The Housemaid
It Could Be A Hit That Launches A Franchise
The Housemaid is already a popular novel that has been on The New York Times bestsellers list for 75 weeks and counting and has been translated into 40 languages. Adding Sweeney, who is already one of Hollywood's fastest-rising stars, and Seyfried, who is equally adept at dramatic and comedic roles, makes the adaptation of the bestselling novel even more promising. Feig is a fitting choice to direct as well, given his history of directing movies with nuanced women at the forefront of the story.

How A Simple Favor's Weird Painting Avoided Spoiling The Movie's Villain Twist
A Simple Favor made a couple of changes to the book, including the painting in Emily's living room, through which the movie avoided a huge spoiler.
If The Housemaid is as successful as its potential suggests it can be, more adaptations may follow for its sequels, The Housemaid's Secret and The Housemaid is Watching. It could become a major thriller franchise for Sweeney, Seyfried, and Feig that builds on the success of their other projects. The Housemaid first needs to do well, but between the audiences that the books have reached, along with Sweeney and Seyfried's star power, the movie adaptation should not have any problem becoming a box office hit.
Our Take On The Housemaid
The Casting And Directing Choices Are Exciting
Sweeney and Seyfried are a compelling duo chosen to lead the adaptation of McFadden's popular novel. Both have experience starring in thrillers and will likely thrive under Feig's distinct direction and within the book's suspenseful atmosphere that will be brought to life in the adaptation. The Housemaid already has an extensive built-in audience and could become Sweeney's biggest hit since Anyone But You, along with becoming one of Seyfried's best movies. One of the next steps will be the casting of Andrew, the husband of Seyfried's character.
