As the champion of Star Wars' live-action TV show era, The Mandalorian and its characters have become absolutely paramount to the Star Wars mythos, with an impressive collection of significant events that have greatly impacted the galaxy. Following the Mandalorian bounty hunter Grogu, The Mandalorian quickly captured the hearts of its audience with the unlikely yet strong bond formed between this lone warrior and his ward. Their story has since continued to blossom, interweaving itself with the likes of Star Wars' best characters - including Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, and more.
The timeline of its events abides by the same dating system used throughout Star Wars, which revolves around the events of A New Hope. The Battle of Yavin, which takes place when Luke Skywalker destroys the first Death Star, serves as the centerpiece of the Star Wars timeline. Everything else takes place either before that event (BBY) or after (ABY).
It's worth noting, however, that The Mandalorian's precise timeline is still as yet unknown. There are conflicting reports on when exactly these events take place, with the Star Wars Timelines reference book citing that everything before The Mandalorian season 3 happens in the year 9 ABY, while series creator Jon Favreau has stated before that these events occur with the same time lapses the audience has experienced in real life between seasons. This timeline adheres to the latter , approximating the years in which The Mandalorian's events take place.

9 ABY: Lawlessness Prevails In The Outer Rim
Din Djarin Receives A High-Profile Job From An Imperial Client
The Mandalorian begins when Din Djarin completes a bounty hunting job on the planet Pagodon and receives a new offer from the Great Purge of Mandalore. After creating a new piece of armor with his beskar down payment, Din sets off to find his target.
Din Djarin Finds Grogu On Arvala-7
Din tracks his target to the planet Arvala-7, where he's saved from blurrgs by an Ugnaught named Kuiil. Having heard the legends of the Mandalorians, Kuiil offers to teach Din how to ride blurrgs before guiding him to the Nikto encampment, where Din's target is hidden. When the bounty hunting droid IG-11 arrives simultaneously, Din is forced to work with the IG unit to take out the Niktos. Once inside the encampment, Din realizes his target is a child, the Force-sensitive "Baby Yoda" Grogu, and he kills IG-11 before the droid can eliminate the target.
Din Djarin's distaste for droids like IG-11 comes from childhood trauma, as his parents and his homeworld were destroyed by B-2 battle droids during the Clone Wars before he was rescued and taken in by the Mandalorians.
Grogu Saves Din Djarin From A Mudhorn
With Grogu in tow, Din Djarin makes his way back to his Razor Crest gunship, just to find that it's been stripped by Jawas. He returns to Kuiil's farm, seeking assistance in regaining his ship parts, and is tasked by them with retrieving a mudhorn egg. The mudhorn puts up a dangerous fight, and Din's nearly killed by the beast until Grogu uses the Force to save the bounty hunter. Din, unfamiliar with the Force, is rocked by this event, though he nevertheless manages to take the egg to the Jawas and fix his ship with Kuiil's help.
Din Djarin Turns In Grogu Before Rescuing Him Again
Despite his conflicted feelings about the child, Din Djarin still turns him in, initially unable to go against the Guild Code. After accepting his beskar payment and having a new suit of armor crafted from it, he intends to set out on another job. He, however, experiences a change in heart, and he breaks into the Imperial stronghold to rescue Grogu. Greef Karga sends his bounty hunters after Din, but the other Mandalorians hidden on Nevarro come to Din's aid, allowing him to escape offworld with Grogu.
Din Djarin & Grogu Go On The Run
For the next few months, Din Djarin and Grogu go on the run, evading stray bounty hunters whenever and wherever they can. They make a stop on the backwater world of Sorgan, where they meet former Rebel shocktrooper Cara Dune as she and Din forces to protect a farming village from raiders. After a bounty hunter finds them there, however, Din and Grogu return to the stars, where another run-in with a hunter causes them to make a pit stop on Tatooine. There, they meet Peli Motto, a mechanic who becomes endeared to this unlikely pair.

Everything Star Wars Has Revealed About The History Of The Mandalorians
Mandalorians have a long, complicated history in the original Star Wars Expanded Universe, but what is known about them in the official canon?
Din takes a bounty hunting job on Tatooine with a rookie hunter named Toro Calican to pay Peli Motto for her services, but after they apprehend the bounty hunter Fennec Shand, Toro turns against Din instead. Din makes quick work of eliminating him and flees Tatooine with Grogu. Still in need of work, Din answers a call from an old named Ranzar Malk to complete a prison heist. The group of mercenaries attempts to betray Din, but he gains the upper hand, locking up half of them while sending a New Republic attack squad against the others.
Din Djarin & Grogu Return To Nevarro & Defeat Moff Gideon
Din eventually receives a transmission from Greef Karga, proposing that they team up to eliminate the Imperial threat on Nevarro. Knowing they cannot go on the run forever, Din hesitantly accepts, though he takes Cara Dune and Kuiil with him as reinforcement. Greef secretly has plans to betray Din, but after Grogu saves the magistrate from a life-threatening wound, Greef has a change of heart. He kills his own reinforcements before he and Din make a plan to kill the Imperial Client. Unfortunately for them, however, the Client isn't their biggest threat.

Nevarro Explained: Why The Mandalorian's Planet Is So Important To Star Wars' Future
The planet Nevarro was created for The Mandalorian TV show, and has since developed a story of its own. Here's everything you need to know about it.
Moff Gideon, the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) officer responsible for the Great Purge, arrives and has his forces surround Din, Greef, and Cara. IG-11, now reprogrammed as a nurse droid by Kuiil, saves Grogu from stormtroopers and comes to their rescue as well. Din nearly dies in the ensuing battle, but IG-11 saves his life. The group then seeks out the Mandalorians, but only the Armorer is left, and she quests Din with returning Grogu to the Jedi before making them a clan of two. IG-11 then sacrifices his life to give Din the opportunity to defeat Moff Gideon.
Kuiil sadly loses his life trying to get Grogu back to the Razor Crest.
10 ABY: Secret Imperial Remnants Grow Stronger
The Clan Of Two Searches For Mandalorians & The Jedi
Following the Armorer's command, Din Djarin and Grogu begin to search the galaxy for other Mandalorians to help them find the Jedi. One lead brings him back to Tatooine, where he meets krayt dragon in exchange for the armor, which he intends on returning to the Mandalorians. Din then gains another lead from the Frog Lady, though their journey to the moon Trask goes awry when Din is chased by New Republic rangers. Eventually, they make it to Trask.
Din Djarin Meets Bo-Katan Kryze & Her Mandalorians
Din and Grogu are both nearly killed by Quarren fishers on Trask when Ahsoka Tano.
Din Djarin & Grogu Find Ahsoka Tano On Corvus
After making a pit stop on Nevarro, where Din helps Greef and Cara destroy an Imperial lab and learns that Moff Gideon is still alive, Din and Grogu arrive on the planet Corvus. There, Din and Grogu meet Ahsoka Tano, who speaks with Grogu through the Force and reveals both his name and his early past to Din. Seeing Grogu's attachment to Din, however, Ahsoka refuses to train the child. Din is still able to get a new solution by helping Ahsoka to rescue the city of Calodan from the cruel magistrate Morgan Elsbeth, and she sends them to Tython.
Grogu Is Captured By Moff Gideon On Tython
Many surprises await the clan of two on Tython. Following Ahsoka's directions, Din places Grogu on the seeing stone at the top of a mountain, which puts Grogu under a Force-induced trance that even Din cannot break. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand arrive in the midst of this, demanding that Boba's armor be returned to him, but they're all distracted by Gideon and the Empire's arrival. Gideon destroys Din's Razor Crest as his dark troopers capture Grogu, leaving Din alone and stranded. Boba and Fennec, however, offer to help him in exchange for Boba's armor.
Din Djarin Breaks His Mandalorian Creed On Morak
Din, Boba, and Fennec pick up Cara to assist them in temporarily freeing Migs Mayfeld, one of Ranzar Malk's mercenaries, from prison. The former Imperial sharpshooter helps them locate an Imperial terminal on the planet Morak, where they can get the coordinates to Gideon's light cruiser. This terminal, however, requires a facial scan, and Din removes his helmet - thus breaking his Mandalorian Creed. After Mayfeld kills an Imperial officer, the pair flees, and Mayfeld destroys the Imperial refinery, earning his freedom. With the coordinates now in hand, Din and his allies prepare for a rescue.
Din Djarin Rescues Grogu From Moff Gideon
Din and his allies find Bo-Katan and Koska, and he recruits them to their rescue mission on the condition that the Mandalorians can take Gideon's light cruiser for their reclamation of Mandalore. The group, now composed of Din, Cara, Bo-Katan, Koska, and Fennec, infiltrate the light cruiser, with Din going after Grogu as the others go after Gideon. The Moff, however, is found by Din within Grogu's cell, and the Mandalorian is forced into a duel when Gideon attacks him with the Darksaber. Din's victory accidentally wins him the ancient weapon, one that Bo-Katan has been wanting.
Luke Skywalker Arrives To Take Grogu From Din Djarin
The rescue isn't that simple. Gideon's Dark Troopers, which Din had initially put out of commission by blasting them into space, return and corner the group inside the light cruiser's bridge. A mysterious Jedi then arrives and saves them all from the droids, and after entering the bridge, he reveals himself to be Luke Skywalker. Having heard Grogu through the Force on Tython, he prepares to take the young child for Jedi training. Din and Grogu exchange an emotional goodbye, where Din reveals his face to Grogu for the first time, before the clan of two officially parts ways.
11 ABY: Unrest Within The Outer Rim Grows
Din Djarin Reunites With His Covert & Is Excommunicated
Long after this goodbye, Din Djarin has returned to bounty hunting, now seeking the location of his Mandalorian covert. He eventually finds them on the Glavis Ringworld, where he res their group and receives training with the Darksaber from the Armorer. After the Mandalorian Paz Vizsla challenges Din to a duel for the ancient weapon, however, Din is forced to reveal that he'd taken off his helmet before. The Armorer declares that he is no longer a Mandalorian, and that his only hope for redemption is bathing in the Living Waters beneath the mines of Mandalore.

Why Din Djarin Could Never Master The Darksaber In The Mandalorian
Although Din Djarin won the Darksaber from Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, he was never able to successfully wield it for one major reason.
Din, dejected, travels via public transport to Peli Motto on Tatooine, where he intends on getting a replacement for his Razor Crest. The mechanic instead presents him with an Ossus, where he's receiving his Jedi training from Luke Skywalker.
Grogu Trains With Luke Skywalker & Faces A Difficult Decision
Meanwhile, Grogu is training with Luke, though his heart is never truly in it. Luke attempts to help Grogu by talking him through his memories of Order 66 and taking him around the planet, but even as Grogu grows in the Force, his enthusiasm still dwindles. Luke decides to give Grogu a choice between two paths: the Jedi Way and the Mandalorian Way. The latter is represented by the gift of beskar chainmail that Din had initially resolved to bring Grogu before being turned away by Ahsoka Tano. Grogu ultimately chooses to be with his father.
Din Djarin Helps Boba Fett In The Battle Of Mos Espa
After being turned away from Ossus by Ahsoka Tano, Din Djarin is able to focus fully on assisting Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and their allies in the Battle of Mos Espa. He also attempts to recruit Cobb Vanth and Mos Pelgo, now known as Freetown, but the marshal politely refuses. After the bounty hunter Cad Bane shoots down the marshal, however, Freetown shows up to avenge their marshal. They arrive just as Din and Boba's allies are about to be defeated, providing them with a new resurgence.
Din Djarin & Grogu Are Reunited Before Embarking On A New Quest
It's in the midst of this battle that Grogu is returned to Din Djarin. The child arrives at Peli Motto's hangar, and the mechanic delivers him to Din in Mos Espa, not knowing that the Mandalorian is actively fighting. Din and Grogu share a sweet reunion in the chaos, and throughout the rest of the battle, Grogu endeavors to protect his father figure as much as he possibly can - even putting Boba's unruly rancor to sleep when the creature threatens Din and the rest of the city. After their victory, the newly reunited duo sets out on a new quest.
Din Djarin & Grogu Travel To Mandalore
Intent on earning his redemption in the Living Waters on Mandalore, Din Djarin takes Grogu with him to gather all the help he can get, beginning with a spelunking droid. He fails to bring IG-11 back to life on Nevarro, but ultimately accepts Peli Motto's offer to buy the astromech R5-D4 in IG's place. Din and Grogu visit Bo-Katan Kryze to her efforts to retake Mandalore, but the Mandalorian heiress insists that her plans are no longer, due to her losing the Darksaber to Din. After Bo-Katan tells him where the mines are, Din travels to Mandalore anyway.
After arriving to Mandalore, Din Djarin reveals to Grogu that he's never actually been on Mandalore, despite being raised on Mandalore's moon, Concordia.
Bo-Katan Kryze Saves Din Djarin Twice On Mandalore
Din Djarin and Grogu run into trouble on Mandalore when a cyborg captures and incapacitates Din. Grogu tries to free his father figure using the Force, but after his attempt fails, Din instructs the child to go to Bo-Katan on Kalevala. Grogu obeys, and upon his return to Bo-Katan's castle, the heiress acts quickly. The two of them, along with R5, travel back to Mandalore in her Gauntlet, where Grogu manages to guide Bo-Katan back to where Din's being held captive. They arrive just in time, and Bo-Katan takes out Din's captor using the Darksaber he'd been disarmed of.

Once Din regains consciousness, he insists on continuing to the Living Waters, and Bo-Katan acts as his guide. As Din enters the water, he falls into the depths, unaware of how the orbital bombardment of the planet had caused the bottom of the cave to hollow out. Bo-Katan jumps in after him to rescue him once again, and on their way back to the surface, she catches sight of a Mythosaur residing within the Living Waters. Bo-Katan, shocked by what she has seen, says nothing and instead focuses on getting the small team off Mandalore.
Din Djarin, Grogu, & Bo-Katan Seek Refuge With Din's Covert
The group, however, is quickly pursued by Imperial TIE interceptors, and a ship battle ensues over Kalevala. Bo-Katan manages to get Din back to his N-1 before the bombers move in and destroy her castle. Left with nowhere else to go, Bo-Katan follows Din to his covert, where she acts as witness to his redemption in the Living Waters. Due to her entering the Living Waters and keeping her helmet on ever since, Bo-Katan is also welcomed into the Children of the Watch, and she takes refuge with them. She even leads a charge to save a foundling.
The Children Of The Watch Save Nevarro
Soon, news arrives from New Republic ranger Captain Carson Teva that Nevarro is under siege by pirates. Din Djarin makes a case to his fellow Mandalorians to rescue the planet, insisting that it's time for them to live out in the open once again. Bo-Katan reinforces his view, and the other Mandalorians eventually agree. They head to Nevarro to resist Pirate King Gorian Shard's takeover, and after a brief battle both on foot and in the air, the Mandalorians take out the pirate forces. Greef Karga offers them a large parcel of land in exchange for their efforts.
Din Djarin & Bo-Katan Kryze Gather Other Mandalorians On Plazir-15
Bo-Katan's leadership efforts during this siege convince the Armorer that it is indeed time to retake Mandalore, and that Bo-Katan must be the one to lead them. After commanding her to remove her helmet and walk both worlds, Bo-Katan is tasked with gathering her lost Mandalorians. She takes Din Djarin and Grogu with her to the planet Plazir-15, where her forces are residing as contracted mercenaries. After assisting the planet with a droid problem, Bo-Katan faces her people, even dueling Axe Woves for leadership. There, Din reveals that Bo-Katan earned the Darksaber on Mandalore, and she earns back their loyalty.
The Mandalorians Fight Against Moff Gideon's Forces To Retake Mandalore
Bo-Katan and Din Djarin both attempt to ease the union between two very different sects of Mandalorians as they prepare to retake their homeworld. A team of volunteers scouts the surface of the planet as the rest of the Mandalorian fleet waits in the atmosphere, and this team quickly comes across a group of Mandalorian survivors, who then guide them to the Great Forge. There, however, they enter a set trap, as it's revealed that Moff Gideon escaped custody and has been using the planet as a secret base. Din is captured as the other Mandalorians make their escape.
Sadly, Paz Vizsla sacrifices his life to help the other Mandalorians get away, and he dies at the Praetorian Guard's hands.
With Axe Woves already having set out to warn the fleet, the rest of the Mandalorians come down to the planet's surface, and they charge into battle under Bo-Katan's leadership. Meanwhile, Grogu sets out on his own to free Din, and the two of them work together to find and kill Moff Gideon. Grogu, however, is trapped with three Praetorian Guards, and Din is almost defenseless against Moff Gideon's new Dark Trooper armor. Bo-Katan arrives to fight Gideon, allowing Din to help Grogu. The three of them then work together to fight Gideon, who ultimately dies in an explosion.
Din Djarin Adopts Grogu & Offers His Services To The New Republic
Now that Mandalore is back in the hands of its people, Din Djarin reevaluates his priorities and lands upon a single one: Grogu. He formally adopts Grogu as his son and helps him ascend to the rank of a Mandalorian apprentice. The Armorer tasks Din with taking Grogu on his apprentice journeys, and Din sets out to the New Republic's Adelphi Outpost. There, he makes an under-the-table deal to be contracted for bounty hunting jobs on the New Republic's behalf before he and Grogu return to their new home on Nevarro - where their journey in The Mandalorian leaves off.
The Mandalorian and Grogu, the movie that will continue Din Djarin and Grogu's story, hits theaters May 22, 2026.
