With the recent failure of Concord, I began to wonder about the market for hero-shooters in the gaming industry. Right now, we have plenty of choices ranging from Overwatch, to Valorant, and even Apex Legends. There are so many options that, unless you can create something truly unique and engaging, there just isn't much to set it aside from other established games. This seems to be an ongoing theme in the industry, and there are more genres that are being affected. Another example is the plethora of survival games. Occasionally you'll see one with a novel idea, like Once Human's pseudo-MMORPG structure with instanced base building and creature-capture mechanics, but most of the time, it ends up being another clone. Though there are a few standouts like Raft and Stranded Deep, I've honestly lost count of island-themed survival games. It's getting harder over time to create a survival game that really shows us something new, but I'm hopeful some developers will continue to stretch ideas of the genre to make something different.
