Batman’s most iconic villains, with over 82 years of rich comic history and a deeply tragic origin. Once Gotham’s fearless district attorney, Harvey Dent fought tirelessly for justice before becoming the notorious rogue. Now, in his highly anticipated solo series, Dent’s dual identities collide as he steps back into the courtroom, embracing his lawyer roots in a way that is sure to drive the Dark Knight insane.

... it’s inevitable that Two-Face’s new brand of justice will become Batman’s worst nightmare....

On December 4, 2024, fans can dive into Two-Face #1, the debut issue of Harvey Dent’s new solo series by Christian Ward, Fabio Veras, Ivan Plascencia, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. According to the synopsis, the comic explores Harvey’s two personalities achieving an uneasy peace, allowing him to regain enough stability to return to his legal roots.

However, instead of resuming his role as Gotham’s district attorney, Harvey takes on the role of an attorney for the criminal underworld, resolving disputes among the city’s most dangerous and eccentric criminals. His first client? None other than Victor Zsasz. While fans await the release of this highly anticipated issue, they can preview four pages in the gallery above.

The preview for Two-Face #1 opens with the iconic moment when Salvatore Maroni throws acid in Harvey’s face during a courtroom hearing—a “baptism of fire and pain” that marks the birth of Two-Face. From there, the scene shifts to Harvey waking up in the hospital, followed by glimpses of his confrontations with Batman throughout his villainous career. The preview’s final page brings readers to the present day, setting the stage for the start of a court hearing. However, it’s immediately clear that this isn’t an ordinary courtroom.

At the front of the courtroom stands Two-Face, addressing the gathered spectators in “The White Church,” which fans know from the synopsis for issue #2 as the court of the criminal underworld. Presiding over the proceedings is the criminal Reaper, while Harvey opens with a declaration of the court’s rules: “No stealing. No fighting. No killing.” He follows this with a cocky invitation to “enjoy the show,” making it clear this court operates far outside the bounds of Gotham’s traditional justice system. What stands out most, however, is how confident and in his element Harvey seems as he reclaims his role as a lawyer—albeit with a Two-Face twist and a criminal edge—promising exciting prospects for this series.

While it’s clear that Harvey remains on the wrong side of the law in this series, there’s no denying that, in a twisted way, he’s mirroring Batman’s role in Gotham—maintaining order among the city’s criminals, just in a less-than-legal manner. Batman’s method of keeping order coexists with Gotham’s justice system, despite his vigilantism being illegal, whereas Harvey and the underworld have developed their own separate system of justice. Given that the Dark Knight is such a stickler for doing things by the book, it’s inevitable that Two-Face’s new brand of justice will become Batman’s worst nightmare.
