Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Ultimate X-Men #15! the new Ultimate Universe), but because the book itself is so incredibly different from anything X-Men fans have ever seen. Written and illustrated by Peach Momoko, Ultimate X-Men has a manga feel, and the characters are almost entirely original. Indeed, Ultimate X-Men truly is a “new era” for mutants, especially in regard to one mutant, who is going to warp reality itself.

Marvel Comics released the solicitation for Ultimate X-Men #15 by Peach Momoko, which included the cover art (by artist Peach Momoko) and the official synopsis.

A NEW AGE! Witness how Hisako’s journey through her inner darkness wreaks havoc on her fellow mutants and reality itself!

As the solicitation reveals, Hisako Ichiki aka Armor is having an internal struggle, battling the darkness within herself. So far in this Ultimate X-Men series, Armor has been portrayed as the comic’s main protagonist, with a mutant named Shinobu Kageyama (aka the Shadow King) acting as the main antagonist. However, it seems Armor might be taking a dark turn in this Ultimate X-Men issue, and when she does, she may change the trajectory of the lives of all mutants in the Ultimate Universe - and perhaps the very fabric of the Ultimate Universe itself.

The part of the solicitation that reveals Hisako will be battling her inner darkness isn’t too surprising, as she’s suffered from depression since the very first issue after her best friend committed suicide. In fact, it was that lingering trauma that made her a target for the Shadow King, who uses that inner darkness against her at every turn. Now, it seems Hisako is going to come to with her own trauma, so the Shadow King can no longer weaponize it against her.

What’s downright shocking, however, is the bit about how Armor will “wreak havoc on reality itself”. Her mutant power is the ability to summon a pink energy aura that wraps itself around her like ‘armor’. But, how does that translate to reality-warping power? Well, maybe Armor won’t warp her reality directly, but indirectly, as a result of coming to with her inner trauma, thereby invoking the wrath of the Shadow King.

The Shadow King May Change the Ultimate Universe (Because of Armor)

Shadow King’s Inability to Corrupt Armor May Anger Him Immensely

Maybe when the solicitation said that Armor would wreak havoc on the Ultimate Universe, it meant that she would be the cause of that havoc by being the one to anger the Shadow King to the point where he uses his immense telepathic powers to change the course of the entire continuity. Perhaps Armor kicks the Shadow King out of her mind for good, and as a result, the Shadow King decides to destroy the world, since he can no longer have the one person he’s obsessed with the most.

It's Been Years, But I'm Still Angry X-Men Flubbed Its Best Villain Reveal of All Time

About 20 years ago, X-Men had the chance to reintroduce characters fans already knew in interesting ways, and with one villain, it totally flubbed it.

Truth be told, this preview leaves fans with more questions than answers. Not only is it possible that Armor could be ‘breaking bad’, but she could also be the cause of widespread havoc. Sure, it’s possible that the Shadow King is the real mutant responsible, but the synopsis makes no mention of him, so his involvement is mere speculation. All fans know right now is exactly what the solicitation tells them, which is that the hero of Ultimate X-Men - a bold new era for X-Men continuity - will somehow warp reality itself.
