Survios' new VR game very difficult trek through zombie-infested areas. Players will need to make sure they bring the best weapons with them during each mission, ensure that they keep an eye out for hidden walkers, and always keep moving. Onslaught can be a very overwhelming experience at first, so players will want to always be at the top of their game while playing.

The more difficult aspect of the game is its Supply Run missions. While surviving Supply Run missions.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Bring The Right Weapons

The Walking Dead Onslaught City

One of the most important aspects of Supply Runs is having the correct weapons equipped for each mission. The earlier missions are very easy to get past with just the knife and pistol, but players who aren't as skilled at the game will have troubles in the later segments with that loadout. As the game progresses, players will acquire several different types of weapons. This means that between each mission players should probably look over their inventory and decide which ones fit best in their loadout.

It is a good idea to have at least one longer melee weapon like the katana or machete in the inventory when ammo runs out, and then fill the other three slots with the player's preferred firearms. A great loadout is a katana/machete, heavy pistol, crossbow, and the automatic rifle. Players should avoid using the shotgun or lever rifle, as their fire rate is far too slow to be useful most of the time.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Melee Weapons Are OP

The biggest thing to keep in mind when playing Onslaught though is that the balance of melee weapons is completely messed up, so melee weapons are way overpowered. It may take four or five headshots from the pistol to kill a zombie, but the machete can behead it with one swing. This means that whenever players encounter non-armored zombies, their best is to use their melee weapons to kill as many zombies as they can. This will stop players from wasting ammo or time when trying to clear out zombies around them.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Upgrade Whenever Possible

Upgrading weapons is a great way to perform better during supply runs. Some of these upgrades improve the damage or accuracy of weapons, while others still give them special abilities. Dropping upgrade materials on the guns can make them more viable options during combat, and can make some of them just as useful as the melee weapons. One of the best upgrades in the game though is for the machete, as players can upgrade it to ignore any enemy armor. This will allow players to behead or stab zombies no matter what kind of headgear they are wearing.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Craft Alexandria Buildings

The Walking Dead Onslaught Alexandria

If players find themselves having any kind of trouble at all during supply runs, they can also craft some of the buildings at their home base to give some advantages. One of these buildings will grant player's extra health during a supply run, which allows them to survive longer without dying. Other buildings can do things like grant players more ammo or supplies when they pick some up or increase the amount of health that healing supplies recover. Most players probably won't have to mess around with this mechanic much, but it's perfect for those who are struggling.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Keep an Eye on the Herd

The Walking Dead Onslaught City

The biggest threat to players in The Walking Dead Onslaught is the ever-encroaching herd of zombies behind them. It effectively works like the circle in battle-royale games where a fog slowly follows the player from behind, and in order to survive the player needs to stay in front of it at all times. Since the entire point of Supply Run missions is to move through buildings and collect supplies, the herd can be particularly annoying since it can force players to abandon some of the supplies that they find.

The trick here is to first keep an eye on the bar at the top of the screen. This will show players how close to them the herd is getting, which should give them a decent idea as to how much time they have to explore. Players will then want to always be sprinting in order to get to new areas as fast as they can so that they can make sure they don't miss out on any supplies. Finally, players shouldn't be afraid to abandon searching a building if the herd gets to close. It's better to miss out on a few pieces of scrap metal or food rather than die.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Use Safe Houses

The Walking Dead Onslaught Rick

Safe houses are very important and will quickly become a player's best friend. There are typically one or two of these places in each mission and are the only part of the map that neither zombies nor the herd can get inside. Once inside players are given a chance to catch their breath, restock on ammo, and refill their health bar before venturing back outside. Since the PSVR can be kind of finicky sometimes, this also a great place to re-calibrate the positioning as well as for players to make sure they are facing the correct direction. Players should be careful though as they will only have a minute or two before the safe house becomes compromised by the herd.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Avoid Combat

The Walking Dead Onslaught Shop

This may sound antithetical to a game that is explicitly about killing zombies, but its best to avoid combat whenever possible during supply runs. Attacking and defending against the hordes of the undead will cost players precious seconds that could have been used tracking down more supplies. Whenever a group of zombies gets close, the best idea is to either shove one into the others or swing a melee weapon a few times to clear room to run. Players can then run inside buildings and slam the door behind them in order to make time for some quick looting. Additionally, weapons like the assault rifle or burst pistol can be used to quickly take out or stun large groups of enemies in order to make a quick getaway.

The Walking Dead Onslaught- Keep Eyes (and Ears) Open

The Walking Dead Onslaught Shotgun

The biggest piece of advice that a player in The Walking Dead Onslaught can be given is to stay vigilant at all times for both normal zombies and the hoard. Even when a player has their back turned or can't see any zombies nearby, they can still listen for suspicious noises. The herd itself makes a lot of noise when it gets close, and (depending on which character is being played as) Rick or Michonne will comment on how close the herd getting. Additionally, players will be able to hear the sounds of a door being broken when zombies manage to get inside a building. These sounds give players a great indication of when they should put their guard up or run.
