For those looking to watch the quintessential tearjerker romances. It stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the roles that arguably kicked off their individual rises to international stardom. Based on the book of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook follows a young couple in the 1940s, Noah (Gosling) and Allie (McAdams), who fall in love but are separated by their different stations in life.

As with many Nicholas Sparks movies, the earnest romance in The Notebook led to an unfairly low Rotten Tomatoes score, at 54%. But there's no denying The Notebook is an enduring classic, and the chemistry between Gosling and McAdams is beautifully authentic, as is the romance between the older versions of both those characters. It's a timeless film with great performances from an ensemble of fantastic actors, including Joan Allen, James Marsden, and Sam Shepard. The Notebook is excellent for anyone who needs a good cry or a cozy film on a rainy day, so here's where to find it.

There's An Alternate Version Of The Notebook

A New Ending Briefly Appeared On Netflix

While The Notebook is a movie that can be enjoyed many times, even those fans who have rewatched the film several times may not yet have seen the alternate version. There is an The Notebook that leaves out the final moments of the movie in which Allie and Noah make a heartbreaking promise and the nurse discovers them the next morning. Instead, the alternate ending only hints at their fate while cutting to a final image of birds taking flight, reflecting Noah's famous line to Allie, "If you're a bird, I'm a bird."

The ending seemed to only exist as the version briefly included in The Notebook's Netflix release in the UK. However, despite the fact that it has been sought out by many fans since its discovery, it is unclear if the alternate ending is currently on any streaming or video-on-demand options for The Notebook.
