WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Wonder Woman #4!With each new comic release, Absolute Wonder Woman’s massive sword only becomes more badass. Its design, echoing some of the most iconic weapons from the Japanese role-playing game Final Fantasy VII and the dark fantasy epic Berserk, gives it an undeniable edge, instantly making it a fan-favorite. In addition to its badass design, Wonder Woman's sword also has a badass name, much like Cloud Strife's Buster Sword or Guts' Dragon Slayer.

...it almost transcends the definition of a sword, resembling more a colossal chunk of death-dealing metal.

DC’s newly debuted Absolute Wonder Woman brings an epic and hardcore twist to the Amazon princess, completely reimagining her origin story and giving her a narrative that mirrors the darker, grittier undertones of the Darkseid-created world she inhabits.

Among the changes to this version of Diana is her weaponry, with her iconic Lasso of Truth now reimagined as the Nemesis Lasso— a weapon that judges its captives' sins and inflicts pain equal to the harm they've caused. Additionally, the Amazon warrior now wields a massive sword that only gets cooler with each Absolute Wonder Woman release, and its design is bound to trigger a wave of déjà vu for Berserk and Final Fantasy VII fans.

Absolute Wonder Woman’s New Sword Echos the Designs of Guts' Dragon Slayer & Cloud Strife's Buster Sword

As mentioned earlier, Absolute Wonder Woman’s sword is massive—so massive, in fact, that it almost transcends the definition of a sword, resembling more a colossal chunk of death-dealing metal. The blade itself is simple in design, with a thick rectangular shape and only one notable feature: two red stripes near the guard cross. The handle and pommel also embrace simplicity, with a narrow yet elongated handle wrapped in dark leather, allowing for a two-handed grip that provides both control and power. The pommel is equally understated, featuring a simple cylindrical metal cap.

What’s interesting is that, aside from the red stripes, the description of Absolute Wonder Woman’s sword could easily apply to both Guts’s Dragon Slayer from Berserk and from Final Fantasy VII. All three swords are massive in design and share a striking resemblance, differing mainly in a few key design elements. Seeing Diana wield a sword reminiscent of Guts’s and Strife’s not only creates an instant association but also amplifies the inherent badassery of the weapon. The reputation these swords carry—imbued with the badassery of Guts and Strife—only adds to the raw power Diana exudes while wielding it.

Absolute Wonder Woman #4 sword 1

Absolute Wonder Woman's sword has been teased from the very beginning, appearing in cover art long before her official in-narrative debut. Fans quickly knew that this version of Diana would differ from the original, especially when it came to her weaponry. However, no one could have predicted just how badass the sword would be from the cover art alone—seeing it in action proved to be an entirely different experience. Moreover, the recent release of Absolute Wonder Woman #4 has added a major twist to the sword, making it even more memorable, thanks to this version of Diana being a powerful, magic-wielding witch.

In Absolute Wonder Woman #4, Diana prepares to face the world-ending Tetracide once again after her first failed attempt to subdue the monster. As part of her preparations, she is shown casting a spell over her massive sword. The purpose of the spell becomes abundantly clear when the sword not only grows but becomes so enormous that it is essentially the size of a skyscraper. With nearly incomprehensible strength, Diana wields the colossal weapon, cutting the Tetracide in half and ending its threat to humankind. This wild twist further proves that fans should expect the unexpected in this series.

Absolute Wonder Woman #4 sword 2

Wonder Woman’s sword is unlike anything the Amazon princess has ever wielded across DC’s various continuities. This wild reimagining of her classic arsenal is part of what makes this iteration so appealing, elevating the character to new heights. Much like Guts’ Dragon Slayer and Cloud Strife's Buster Sword, Diana’s weapon also boasts a badass name: "the mythical Athena Blade." A tribute to Earth-Prime Wonder Woman’s Blade of Athena, this name is undeniably fitting and enhances the sword’s legendary status, putting it right alongside iconic weapons like Guts’ Dragon Slayer and Cloud Strife's Buster Sword.
