Abin Sur on John Stewart DC

In this upside-down version of the DC Universe, Abin Sur arrived not to on a Green Lantern ring, but to ensnare a small town in order to judge its citizens. The alien speaks in cryptic messages, telling people to 'be not afraid' and to 'show no fear'. While it's not been revealed how Abin Sur's time on Earth ends, the result of his visit has been seen in survivors Hal Jordan and Jo Mullein. Muellin is currently wielding a mysterious Green Lantern-like energy, while Jordan has been cursed with the Black Hand, making him a threat to everyone.

This is actually the second death of a Green Lantern in as many issues. The previous issue ended with the Absolute Guy Gardner standing up to Abin Sur before the alien blasted Guy with similar green energy. Abin Sur is obviously testing this world's version of the Green Lanterns and he's never said that Guy or John failed, just that they've been judged. Plus, John's smirk as he's vaporized makes it seem like he's figured Abin Sur's game out. Could this death be more than it seems and actually be the next stage in John's evolution as a Green Lantern?

Absolute Abin Sur Arrives DC

It’s hard to tell what Abin Sur is thinking with this deranged experiment, but John is a bright man and, like Abin Sur implored, Stewart wasn’t afraid when destiny called. John just proved he was the kind of person that Abin Sur is looking for, and it’s almost guaranteed fans will be seeing him again soon. Hopefully, ing this test will allow him the chance to really show what he can do wielding the Emerald Light. Though he seems gone for now, DC fans haven’t seen the last of this incredibly powerful Green Lantern.
