Warning: Spoilers for Deadpool #8!Deadpool is well-known for breaking the fourth wall and calling out other pieces of media that don't seem to exist in the Marvel world. This time, however, in a narration describing a past moment, a Deadpool character references the beloved Oscar-winning movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. Not only does this line up exactly with Deadpool's other media references, but it acknowledges Marvel's most famous multiversal cousin - and rival.
Deadpool is officially dead in Marvel continuity, and in Deadpool #8 by Cody Ziglar, Alexis Quasarano, Rogê Antônio, Guru-eFX, and Joe Sabino, some further background is given on an important Deadpool relationship. Tracking down her father's killer, Ellie Camacho, the newest Deadpool, comes face to face with the mutant Valentine Vuong, who has a romantic history with Wade Wilson.
Speaking through a montage of their past, she outlines how much they loved each other, knowing it wouldn't end well. The funny part comes from how she echoes the famous "laundry and taxes" line from the movie Everything Everywhere All Aa Once - with her own Deadpool spin on it, of course: "In another life, I would have really liked just shooting henchmen and mercenaries with him..."

Deadpool, as the Merc with a Mouth, Is the Multiverse's Mouthpiece
Deadpool Makes Jabs about Everything, from Movies to Anime
It could be argued that Everything Everywhere All at Once is Marvel's multiversal rival. The multiverse has been an important plot point in superhero comics for many years, from DC to Marvel. But it is this Oscar-winning movie that brought the fun of the multiverse to an audience beyond comic fans. The only thing for Deadpool and his team to do, then, is to take a quick jab at this new rival, just to make sure every fan knows who's really in charge of multiverse stories.

Deadpool's Final Words Are the Perfect Choice, As Marvel Kills Off Wade Wilson
With his last dying breath, the previously unkillable Merc with a Mouth calls out to one person, breaking every Deadpool fan's heart in the process.
From Deadpool's own multiversal movie to alternate reality comics like Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe by Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic, Deadpool has shown he is the foremost authority in multiversal stories. After all, he's the one with the cosmic awareness to comment on every other universe. And so, with this funny little jab, Deadpool gives fans a laugh while also squaring up to his multiversal rival.
