Warning: SPOILERS for X-Force #40As far as chatty, and arguably annoying, Deadpool is usually at the top of every fan’s list. Called the Merc With A Mouth for a reason, Wade Wilson is well-known for his inability to keep said mouth shut, even during the worst of times. But a new confrontation with an X-Men hero nobody saw coming may have just introduced Krakoa’s newest odd couple duo.
X-Force #40 by Benjamin Percy, Paul Davidson, Robert Gill, and GURU-eFX sees the return of the one and only Quentin Quire to the fold. After a long absence during which he's been presumed dead, a positively ancient Quentin – no longer fit to be called Kid Omega – emerges through a time portal on Krakoa. Having come to ask X-Force for their help with a dark future timeline, Quire almost immediately begins roasting the new lineup, only for the ever-mouthy Deadpool to give him a piece of his mind. And quite unfortunately for Deadpool, Quentin Quire is the one X-Man as sassy as he is.
Deadpool’s New Friendship Is Off To A Rough Start
Thought dead after his battle with Cerebrax, Quentin returns in X-Force #40 to request help from the titular team in saving the future. He’s immediately disappointed by the lineup he finds waiting for him and singles out Deadpool as he hoists him into the air with his telekinesis. Wade being Wade, Deadpool instantly tells Quire there’s only room on the team for one mouthy hero who hides his pain with humor, to which Quentin responds, “You’re like if middle-school bathroom graffiti was a person. I’m already bored. Goodbye.” He then hurls Deadpool into the skies above Krakoa and leaves him to plummet back down to Earth as he takes the rest of the team back to his dystopian future. And while Quire’s dismissal and takedown of Wade is pretty blunt, it sets the stage for the next great Deadpool team-up.
As a noted wild card, Deadpool has long made a career out of teaming up with vastly different heroes nobody would expect him to mesh with. From his iconic bromance with Cyclops’ son Cable, to his fan-favorite friendship with Spider-Man, Wade has a way of annoying someone into being his friend. And if he ever manages to do the same with Quentin Quire, even in his new Old Man Quentin status quo, there’s no limit to the hilarious possibilities fans could expect.
The Merc With A Mouth Can’t Be Silenced
After all, Quire’s verbal takedown of Deadpool is surprisingly apt, as is Wade’s own analysis of Quire. But unfortunately for Wade, this issue doesn’t give him the opportunity to make a new best friend. For better or worse, Marvel Comics' Deadpool just doesn’t know how to shut up, but it seems that Old Man Quentin Quire can read him just as easily as bathroom graffiti.
