It’s now been confirmed that Jack Alcott is returning as Harrison Morgan in divisive ending of the limited revival series Dexter: New Blood, Showtime is bringing back Dexter Morgan and a few other original characters in the sequel series Dexter: Resurrection. Though Dexter was seemingly shot and killed by Harrison in New Blood, the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin revealed that he was miraculously revived at the hospital, allowing for his return in Resurrection.
Alongside Michael C. Hall as the titular character, Dexter: Resurrection’s plot details are still being kept under wraps, Harrison’s return teases a major fallout after Dexter was exposed as the Bay Harbor Butcher, which opens the door for more of Dexter’s loved ones to confront him over his crimes. More specifically, Dexter’s other two forgotten kids from the original series.
Harrison's Confirmed Return Means Dexter: Resurrection Finally Has To Bring Back Astor & Cody
Dexter's Stepkids Were Ignored In New Blood
With Harrison Morgan coming back as a series regular, it’s time for Dexter: Resurrection to include a larger reunion and reckoning for the Morgan family. Though Harrison being Dexter’s own flesh and blood made their connection stronger, it was strange that New Blood completely ignored Astor and Cody Bennett. When Dexter’s original series began, the titular character was in a relationship with Rita, and formed a close bond with her young children. When Astor and Cody’s biological father died, Dexter truly became their dad – even before he married Rita.
Though their oversight was an issue with New Blood’s narrative, Dexter: Resurrection has the opportunity to fix this by having Harrison finally reunite with Astor and Cody.
After Harrison was born, the notion that Astor and Cody were forever tied to Dexter as a family unit was strengthened. However, after Rita was murdered by the Trinity Killer in Dexter season 4, it was decided that Astor and Cody would live with Rita’s parents in Orlando, Florida, with Harrison remaining under Dexter’s care. Over the following years, Dexter would still occasionally see his stepkids, as he maintained a fatherly role with them while helping to foster Harrison’s relationship with his half-siblings. Oddly, though, Astor and Cody aren’t mentioned when Harrison and Dexter reunite in New Blood.

How Dexter Morgan Survived New Blood’s Ending
The opening scene of Dexter: Original explains how Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan survived being shot by Harrison in New Blood's ending.
Harrison’s return in New Blood revealed that he lived in foster care after Dexter faked his death and abandoned him and Hannah McKay died of cancer. Of course, this prompted questions about why Harrison didn’t live with Rita’s parents or with Astor and Cody, who would have been adults by that time. Though their oversight was an issue with New Blood’s narrative, Dexter: Resurrection has the opportunity to fix this by having Harrison finally reunite with Astor and Cody, giving him necessary family and love in the wake of shooting Dexter and dealing with the trauma of their mother’s murder.
Astor & Cody's Return Is More Crucial Than Ever After Dexter Was Revealed As The Bay Harbor Butcher
Astor & Cody Would Be Important Witnesses In The Case Against Dexter
Though Astor and Cody’s absences in New Blood can be excused by the notion that Dexter was living under the alias Jim Lindsay and Harrison had actively sought him out, that no longer applies due to their relevancy in Resurrection after Dexter was revealed as the Bay Harbor Butcher. Both Angela and Batista effectively came to the conclusion that Dexter was the notorious Miami serial killer at the end of New Blood, leaving too many high-profile trails for him to cover and keep his identity from being revealed.
Dexter: Resurrection is confirmed to premiere in summer 2025.
Dexter Morgan being – or at least suspect of being – the Bay Harbor Butcher will likely be publicly exposed early in Dexter: Resurrection, which means people from his past are apt to be called in for questioning about his history in Miami. Many of the people who would have more intimate details, like Deb, Rita, Hannah, Harry, LaGuerta, and Doakes, are dead, but not Astor and Cody, who lived with Dexter for years and were raised by him.

It’ll be shocking and life-shattering when they find out that the man they trusted and loved as a father is a killer, and that’s the exact sort of reckoning that Dexter needs to face in Resurrection. Not only that, but Astor and Cody’s returns would be important for Harrison being able to learn more about his mother and truly understand who his father was in Miami outside of being a killer. Through their deep shared trauma, Dexter’s exposure in Resurrection could be what finally brings Harrison, Astor, and Cody together again as a family.
How Old Astor & Cody Would Be In Dexter: Resurrection
Astor & Cody Would Already Be In Their 20s In Dexter: Resurrection
Astor Bennett was about 14 years old when Dexter’s original series ended in 2013, and would have been around 22–23 years old during New Blood in late 2021. It’s unclear whether Resurrection will pick up directly after New Blood’s finale in late December 2021-early January 2022 or begin its events with a time jump to 2025. If the latter proves to be true, then Astor should be around 26–27 years old in Resurrection. Since Cody is about two years younger than Astor, he should be approximately 24–25 years old in Dexter: Resurrection.
