It's earned by completing quests and finding shards around the Valley that can be crafted into the rare material. Fans who have been playing the game for a long time might find themselves with an excess of Dreamlight and won't mind using it on storage expansions, but the cost may be prohibitive for newer players.

Some Dreamlight Valley fans wish they could use the easier-to-acquire Gold for certain upgrades, instead of the rarer Dreamlight. Redditor TraditionBrave1070 asks developer Gameloft to "let us turn coins into dreamlight with a magic ATM or something," and the community is getting behind the idea in the comments. "I LOVE the idea of a magic coin to Dreamlight ATM," writes GinAndCynic, and boldlyno adds that the conversion rate doesn't even have to be good to be useful: "Even if the conversion rate was ridiculous, like 1k coins per 1 dreamlight, I'd still be overjoyed."

Gold and Dreamlight are the main currencies in Dreamlight Valley, but they're used for very different things. While Dreamlight is useful for every event and free expansion that arrives in the Valley, like the new slow cooker come in, they've been heavily skewing toward using Dreamlight, not Gold.

The favoring of Dreamlight over Gold has made Gold less valuable, despite being easier to acquire. TraditionBrave1070 wishes Gameloft would give Gold some more attention, so it's more useful, writing: "Make coins have a purpose again, cause they don't anymore." Until that happens, fans will just have to make do with their Dreamlight. The Disney Dreamlight Valley Wonderland Whimsy update arrives on April 23, so fans will just have to start saving Dreamlight to be able to make the most of it.
