A piece of Doctor Strange 2 is the next Marvel movie to hit theaters and is set to be one of the studio’s biggest features yet, as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange is sent on an adventure across the multiverse. The film will be directed by horror-movie veteran Sam Raimi, who previously helmed the original Spider-Man trilogy and has taken the reins from director of the first film, Scott Derrickson, who left due to creative differences.

With the film just weeks away, fans are engaging in last-minute speculation as to who might pop up as Doctor Strange travels from one universe to the next. Rumors are rampant that the film will feature cameos from several Marvel film characters who debuted before the MCU began in 2008, with Patrick Stewart’s appearance in the trailer as, presumably, Professor X from the Fox X-Men series adding fuel to the fire. To take this even further, the film follows on directly from Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Strange himself broke down the barriers of the multiverse and brought former Spider-Men actors Maguire and Andrew Garfield in with Tom Holland's MCU version.

Now, artist @renderdriver shares a shocking piece of Doctor Strange 2 fan art that sees Scarlet Witch use her lover, Vision, to battle against Maguire’s Spider-Man. The piece is set in an esoteric backdrop, with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) looming over the action, her glowing red eyes indicating her control over events. In the foreground, a seemingly resurrected Vision (Paul Bettany) attacks Maguire’s Spider-Man by phasing his hand through the wall-crawler’s chest. Check out the artwork below:

The piece is well put together and is indicative of the mighty Marvel character battles fans may be hoping for from the film. As the artist mentions in the caption, the piece is an adaptation of the cover from Marvel Team-Up No.130, though with Spidey and Wanda now at odds rather than fighting side-by-side. The caption also claims to have created this fan art in response to rumors that Maguire’s Spider-Man could be killed off in the major multiverse event, inviting fans to speculate on his fate.

It's uncertain as to whether fans will get to see an altercation like this take place in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Neither Maguire nor Bettany have been confirmed to appear in the film, though it’s expected that Marvel will be keeping plenty of secrets close to the chest for the sake of opening weekend surprises. It’s hard to believe that Marvel Studios would kill off Maguire’s hero after bringing him back so recently, let alone Raimi, his old Spider-Man director, be the one to do the deed. It does suggest, however, that if pre-established versions of characters are in the film, they may be prime candidates to meet an unfortunate end in the name of raising the stakes. Regardless, this is a dynamic, fan-pleasing piece that is indicative of the crossover potential the Marvel Cinematic Universe has achieved.
