As PC players enjoy the recently released port of the publisher's multiplatform approach must be Xbox, a console that has missed out on several of the most recent games.

Speaking during an interview with Video Games on Sports Illustrated, Yoshida clarified that the development team behind Final Fantasy 16 wants to see the title come to Xbox Series X|S as much as the fans:

Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox. But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything. But of course, I want to say that it’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that. So players should not give up in of their hopes.

No further details on the potential port were provided but one has to imagine that Square Enix is currently in the process of bringing the game over to Microsoft's ecosystem. Final Fantasy 15 is available for Xbox but neither title in the Final Fantasy 7 remake has made it onto the Series X|S.

Square Enix Is Making An Effort For Xbox

It Just Needs To Put In The Time

In early 2024, Square Enix confirmed that it was looking to broaden its horizons by embracing a more traditional multiplatform approach for its games. The studio has long neglected Xbox, releasing most of its major franchises on PlayStation or Nintendo Switch before eventually bringing them to PC. While certain exclusivity deals were established for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, one has to wonder how long such a contract was intended to last.

It seems obvious that bringing Final Fantasy games to Xbox would open up an entirely new opportunity to generate revenue. Square Enix has already been making inroads on the console; It recently ported Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox Game . While this is certainly a step in the right direction, consumers would prefer if more modern installments were also ported.

While the excitement surrounding Final Fantasy 16's PC launch wasn't as high as some may have expected, bringing the game to Xbox would likely prove more fruitful. It was almost a given that the latest mainline entry would make it to Steam and The Epic Games Store, but the announcement of a Series X|S port would leave fans very pleased. One can only hope that the Xbox community doesn't have to wait too long.
