God of War: Ragnarök is the latest success in the long-beloved action-adventure franchise, with the series showing no signs of disappearing anytime soon. To celebrate two decades of visceral action spanning a wide array of systems, Sony is even launching a 20th-anniversary campaign in honor of the series inspired by the working title for the original God of War from 2005. Unlike most cosmetic DLC or anniversary options of the past, Ragnarök's Dark Odyssey Collection will be entirely free for all owners of the base game when it launches on March 20th.
While the anniversary collection might be slightly disappointing if you were hoping for news about a God of War trilogy remaster, the Dark Odyssey Collection is just one of the many ways PlayStation is celebrating the 20-year-old franchise. From limited-time merchandise, significant discounts, a developer book set, and even an art exhibition, there are plenty of ways to share for the beloved franchise while getting some worthwhile rewards on the side. While most of the designs are entirely new, one pleasant surprise is aimed towards fans of the original trilogy.

Celebrating 20 Years Of Slaying In Style
On top of the wide array of free cosmetics coming to Ragnarök, Sony is adding a customizable appearance option that lets players visually equip weapons and shields without changing their stats. Regardless of what gear or weapons you want to use, Ragnarök will finally provide more freedom to customize Kratos using stylish cosmetics without interrupting your moment-to-moment gameplay.

Rumored New God Of War Game Already Has A Perfect Story To Tell
There are rumors that a new God of War game could be in the works, and Ragnarök has already set up a perfect story for the next game.
While each item is strikingly detailed with a unique style for the series, the most iconic inclusion is the return of the God Mode Difficulty skin for Kratos from God of War II, redesigned in higher fidelity than ever before.

While nothing in the anniversary announcements has pointed towards a reveal for the next entry in the God of War franchise, it's clear Sony hasn't forgotten how popular the franchise has been since the reboots. If the rumors of the next God of War game taking place in Egyptian mythology are true, there's plenty to look forward to for the franchise's future, featuring the same climatic battles and heartfelt moments the series has become known for in a brand-new setting.
How To Access God of War: Ragnarök Dark Odyssey Content
Getting Your Free Gear Without Any Hassle
With the in-game update being entirely free, all you have to do to access any collection items is visit any Lost Item Chest in the base game or simply travel to Valhalla to unlock them automatically.

Every God of War Game, Ranked Worst To Best
There are very few bad games in the God of War series, but that still doesn't make them all equal. The series tends to get better as it goes.
If you want to express your love for the God of War franchise even more after unlocking the gear, Sony is also releasing anniversary-themed items for the Steam Points Shop and PlayStation Network.
The weapon appearances are made for the fully upgraded version of each weapon and will only be available for use upon reaching that upgrade.
Given that the anniversary events are leading up to the official anniversary of the God of War franchise on the 22nd, it seems like there's a good chance Sony is holding back an exciting announcement to reveal when the time is right. While the live service God of War game may have been canceled, that doesn't mean Sony can't have more projects in store for dedicated fans. Even without a new try, there's more than enough incentive to revisit God of War: Ragnarök with these free cosmetics or finally make the jump into its world with its significant discounts.
