Throughout the Harry Potter series, the titular character becomes known as 'the Chosen One' as he is destined to bring down Lord Voldemort but there's often a question about whether or not he deserves that destiny. Harry often gets by on pure luck and his connection to Voldemort makes his role of 'hero' increasingly difficult.
Some other characters introduced in the series would handle the pressure of the role better than Harry, whilst others are much better equipped to take on the Dark Lord and could have avoided an untimely demise if they were central to the story.
Neville Longbottom
Neville is far more hapless than Harry at the beginning of the series and, without the help of Ron and Hermione, he'd certainly have a hard time as 'The Chosen One' in his early years. That being said, Neville develops enormously throughout the series and is integral in bringing down Lord Voldemort.
While he would find the pressure much harder to deal with than Harry initially, he would certainly grow into the role and prove a fierce adversary for the Dark Lord. Considering his parents' torture at the hands of the Death Eaters, Neville has almost as much reason to hate Voldemort as Harry. Of course, the prophecy could also have applied to Neville and it was his killing of Nagini which actually triggered Voldemort's eventual defeat.
Luna Lovegood
Despite being bullied while at Hogwarts, Luna rarely lets anything get to her. Unlike Harry, she is quite content with being different and although she has some unusual beliefs, she is shown to be wise beyond her years. Luna is actually the one to realize Harry needs to talk to the Grey Lady in order to locate Ravenclaw's diadem (which is one of Voldemort's Horcruxes).
Luna is often considered the best character in the Harry Potter movies which would make her a perfect protagonist and Chosen One. During the fifth movie, she also proves she can hold her own in a fight during the battle at the Department of Mysteries. Luna's wisdom, courage and colorful personality would make her an exciting main character for the series as well as a solid threat to Voldemort.
Nymphadora Tonks
As an Order of the Phoenix member, Tonks shows herself as a brave and highly capable witch on a number of occasions within the series. Also, as several of Tonks's family are aligned with Voldemort this would be an interesting point of tension if she was the Chosen One.
Tonks is one of the strongest Order of the Phoenix and plays a key role in several battles during the Second Wizarding War. Also, she has the unique gift of being a metamorphmagus which allows her to change her appearance at will. Harry has to use potions and other spells to change or alter his appearance within the series so Tonks's natural ability to do this would prove highly useful if she were the Chosen One and had a more central role in the fight against Voldemort.
Remus Lupin
Lupin would have disliked the limelight even more than Harry but he certainly had the qualities needed to be The Chosen One. Having fought in both Wizarding Wars, Lupin is a committed member of the Order of the Phoenix.
Much like Harry, Lupin also has a personal grievance with Voldemort and still feels the loss of his friends, James and Lily many years later. Also similarly to the boy wizard, he is battling internal demons due to his lycanthropy. However, Lupin is a highly skilled wizard who is mature and experienced enough to think logically before acting, unlike Harry.
Sirius Black
Much like Harry, Sirius was rebellious during his time at Hogwarts and despite many of his family becoming Death Eaters, he fights against Voldemort. He is one of the best Gryffindors from the Harry Potter series and considering Voldermort's murder of James, he has even more reason than most to despise the dark wizard.
Sirius has many qualities in common with his godson such as bravery and selflessness. That being said, he proves himself to be a highly skilled duellist on a number of occasions which means he doesn't have to rely on friends to protect him like Harry often does. Sirius has also broken out of prison and remained hidden while on the run which means he has just the right set of skills needed in order to fool someone as powerful as Voldemort.
Minerva McGonagall
As a dedicated teacher of Hogwarts, McGonagall has a large range of knowledge when it comes to the magical arts. She also fought in both wizarding wars and, along with Dumbledore and Hagrid, is integral in getting baby hurry to safety after the murder of his parents.
Her animagus abilities allow her to blend in and go undetected for the most part which means she could infiltrate the Death Eaters far easier than Harry ever did. In the final movie, she also proves she is adept at defensive spells when she takes on Snape and beats him during a duel. McGonagall certainly wouldn't let the status of 'Chosen One' go to her head either and would remain dedicated to taking down Voldemort.
Newt Scamander
Newt is one of the most Fantastic Beasts and as a former student of Dumbledore, he has a similar relationship with the professor to Harry's in the original series. He is somewhat of a reluctant hero though and prioritizes his beasts above all else. That being said, Newt has much less personal trauma to deal with than Harry and has less to distract him from the fight at hand.
In the Fantastic Beasts series, he is an important ally to Dumbledore and is key in the fight against Grindelwald. Although Newt's modesty would make him a reluctant Chosen One, he certainly shows he can lead a rebellion against a dark wizard.
