Since the release of the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, Potter fans have been caught up in the nostalgia of the franchise, but the reunion revealed that a sequel is likely not on the cards. The excitement surrounding the Fantastic Beasts trilogy being set up, keeping the Potterhead mania still very much alive. However, the reunion showed why a sequel to the original films is so unlikely.

The reunion gave audiences insight into Harry Potter myths and rumors, anecdotes from the cast, and wonderful tributes to the Harry Potter actors who have sadly ed away. It also reunited the Golden Trio - Ron, Harry and Hermione - played by Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, and Emma Watson respectively, situating them back in the Gryffindor common room where it all started. The trio shared laughs and memories, as they also dived into some complex feelings regarding their fame at such a young age. This plays a key part in the unlikeliness of producing a Harry Potter sequel.

Rupert Grint revealed that being rocketed to fame as a child gave him some complicated identity issues, stating that he didn't know where Ron ended and Rupert began. In the reunion special, many fellow actors endlessly praised Rupert as the perfect Ron Weasley, but Rupert's insight depicts how hard it was for him to detach himself from a character so well-known and beloved. He further disclosed that this issue even gave him doubts as to whether to continue in the franchise or not because he struggled to find who he was as Rupert, not Ron.

These feelings of displacement most likely mean a sequel is improbable. Emma also revealed in the reunion that she had her own doubts regarding finishing the films with similar reasoning. While the actors made it astonishingly clear how much they loved being a part of Harry Potter, this feeling was still a sizable portion of their experience, and they may not want to face readdressing it now that the Harry Potter cast has aged 20 years older. The actors who made their start in this franchise have each gone on to be successful in other works, creating some separation between them and the world-famous characters they originated on-screen.

It is never doubted in the reunion that Rupert, and the cast of Harry Potter in general, hold these films incredibly close to their hearts. It is entirely understandable that there would be some perplexing emotions that come as a result of portraying iconic characters at such a young age. Whilst this may mean a sequel probably isn't in the works any time soon, fans can still await the release of the third Fantastic Beasts film, and the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts reunion still provided something of special emotional value for the cast, the crew, and the fans.
