Macaulay Culkin becomes Home Alone-based deepfake video “Home Stallone.” The darker implications of deepfake technology are of course a huge concern as the software continues to develop. For now though, deepfakes remain mostly a source not of evil but amusement, as creative video makers employ it to craft insanely weird and at times brilliant actor swaps.
In recent months, fans of deepfakes have been treated to such masterpieces of actor-swapping speculation as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Another recent deepfake made a lot of action movie fans’ dreams come true by inserting Terminator 2. The same individual responsible for that video, Ctrl Shift Face, has once again made magic by inserting Stallone into a movie, but this time the choice of film is truly inspired and frankly disturbing. The particular genius of “Home Stallone” of course lies in the fact that Home Alone star Culkin is a little kid and putting Stallone’s face on him is inherently bizarre and hilarious (in fact he somewhat resembles Ryan Gosling which makes it even weirder). But Ctrl Shift Face goes the extra mile by also putting Stallone’s face on Final Destination, giving the McCallisters a tragic fate and leaving Kevin truly alone (perhaps this is how he was started on the path to becoming Jigsaw).
A dark and twisted re-do of Home Alone starring Stallone as Kevin may not have been what the world really needed right now, but there’s no question “Home Stallone” makes for an impressive demonstration of what creative people can do with the tool of deepfakes. The world can surely look forward to more hilarious deepfake videos in the coming months as the technology continues to evolve. Eventually though, ethical concerns will no doubt get in the way, as actors (perhaps rightly) begin to raise concerns about their likenesses being manipulated without their consent.
