How I Met Your Mother remains a beloved sitcom even 10 years after its divisive finale, and a spinoff show called How I Met Your Father continued the series' universe for two seasons before its cancellation in September 2023. There have been no official announcements regarding a revival or continuation of the show since, but it's entirely possible that Bays and Thomas' creation will return in some form in the future.

It's possible, for example, that the show will be remade for a new audience. If a remake or reboot ever does move forward, it will have to contend with the divisiveness of the How I Met Your Mother ending.
