Harry Potter is Fantastic Beasts 3 set? Readers were introduced to the Wizarding World in the 1990s thanks to J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series, but the end of the saga wasn’t the end of the Wizarding World. Rowling has continued expanding this world through a website, guidebooks, and by sharing more secrets about it, and on the big screen, the Wizarding World continues to be active thanks to the Fantastic Beasts movie series.

To continue exploring the Wizarding World after Lord Voldemort became the dark wizard everyone now knows, but the Wizarding World timeline can be a bit confusing.

The Harry Potter saga chronicled the story of "The Boy Who Lived" and his battle against Lord Voldemort, the darkest wizard of all who failed to kill Harry when he was a baby and had dangerous plans for both the Wizarding and Muggle worlds. As mentioned above, the Fantastic Beasts movies are prequels to the Harry Potter saga, so how do they fit in the Wizarding World timeline?

When Fantastic Beasts Movies Take Place In The Harry Potter Timeline

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was set in 1926, in New York City, and saw Newt going after some escaped magical creatures while a strange, dark force terrorized the city. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald picked up the following year, and focused more on Grindelwald’s plans and Credence Barebone’s (Ezra Miller) backstory, bringing a young Albus Dumbledore into the mix as well. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is reportedly set in the 1930s as the story is leading up to the Wizarding World’s involvement in World War II, meaning that Fantastic Beasts 3 takes place around 60 years before Rowling is retconning Harry Potter canon again through the Fantastic Beasts series.

With the future of the Fantastic Beasts saga unknown, as it was originally intended to be a series of five movies and has been involved in a lot of controversy, it wouldn’t be surprising if Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore jumps from the 1930s to 1945 to show the duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, thus giving proper closure to the saga by showing the end of the Global Wizarding War and maybe even connecting to the Harry Potter saga with characters like a young Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort.
