Fantasy and horror collide in the franchises will be coming together for the first time ever in this miniseries.
Locke & Key was created by writer Joe Hill with artist Gabriel Rodríguez and features the Locke family discovering the secrets of Keyhouse, which involve a portal to another dimension and demons. The Sandman was created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg. Born out of a planned revival of DC's The Sandman from the '70s, the series starred Dream, a godlike being who is mistakenly captured and imprisoned for hundreds of years. After escaping, his journey to reclaim his power takes him literally to Hell and back. Both Locke & Key and The Sandman have elements of mystery and horror that the collaboration promises to deliver on.
Four pages from the opening scene of Locke & Key/The Sandman Universe: Hell & Gone #1 were released on the a magical key fitting a House of Mystery-style door. Check out the cover art, variants, and preview pages below.
Locke & Key/The Sandman Universe: Hell & Gone #1, priced at $6.99, will offer variant covers from Gabriel Rodríguez, JH Williams III, and Kelley Jones. There will also be two Retailer Incentive covers with artwork by Rodríguez and Williams. For newcomers unfamiliar with one or both series - or even for longtime fans who need a refresher - there was a Locke & Key/The Sandman Universe: Hell & Gone #0 released back in December that served to re-establish the central characters in the crossover by reprinting one issue from each series. It will be intriguing to see how this crossover event will further expand upon Sandman Universe, which itself has been expanding in the DC Universe, as well as what this means for the world of Locke & Key.
While waiting for the next season of Locke & Key or the Sandman Netflix adaptation, explore the horror and the fantasy of Locke & Key/The Sandman Universe: Hell & Gone when the first issue releases April 14.
