Part of what made Lost, which came on ABC from 2004 to 2010, such a successful TV show was the relationships it featured throughout its run. There was the main group versus The Others. There were romances. And there were friendships, as well.

Some of these friends clicked instantly and had bonds that were relatable and appealing to fans. Other pals had more complex and complicated things going on, which involved fights, drama and, in some cases, lives lost. That being said, we have rounded up and ranked the five best friendships on this series and the five worst ones, too!

Best: Charlie & Hurley

Two of the best friends on the island were Charlie and Hurley. They went fishing, played golf, and started up the DHARMA van together. They seemed to really enjoy having a good time rather than focusing on their scary and stressful situation, which bonded them more and more.

Even though they goofed around quite often, they cared for each other, as well. They had open and honest conversations, and after Charlie’s death, he even visited Hurley.

Worst: Ben and Danielle

Were Ben and Danielle friends? In the flash sideways, it seemed like they could have been more than friends! On the island, though, Ben kidnapped Danielle’s daughter, Alex, causing Danielle to believe for years that she had lost her daughter forever. Later, Danielle found Ben in one of her traps and shot him. So they did not exactly have a normal or healthy relationship, yet they both had unique lives in this mysterious place.

Best: Desmond and Jack

As a main character, Jack had many relationships, and one great one he held with Desmond. They met before all the craziness, while running in Los Angeles. They escaped the island together. In a flash sideways, they met again. They had a yin and yang thing going on, as Jack was a man of science and Des, a man of faith. And they had a shared salutation, which they both said to the other at different points in time: “See you in another life, brother.”

Worst: Locke & Boone

Locke tilts his head into the rain on Lost

Early on in the show, Locke and Boone discovered the hatch together. However, Locke wanted to keep this info to himself, so they were lying to everyone, sneaking out and staying gone all day. Since Locke also had a connection with the island, he saw Boone’s fate, and this ing character did lose his life in an accident that occured, while he was out with Locke.

Best: Kate & Claire

Kate was another one who was friends with most of the other survivors, but her bond with Claire went deeper. After all, she delivered Claire’s baby, Aaron! She then raised Aaron, after a group returned home, and she tried to reset time so that Claire could raise Aaron from the beginning.

Yes, these two had a special relationship, as well as a one-of-a-kind situation, as they both loved and cared for this little bundle of joy.

Worst: Ben & Juliet

It could be said that Ben didn’t have any friends at all, but he did have very unique relationships with several notable people, such as Juliet. She was brought to the island, was only supposed to be there for six months and ended up staying a bit longer. All the while, Ben wanted to be with her and even had her lover killed.

Later, Juliet and Jack planned to kill Ben. But when a young version of Ben was in danger, Juliet went against her friends in order to save him, despite it all and while still knowing what he would be like someday.

Best: Vincent & Walt

Michael and Walt with Vincent

One of the simplest and purest friendships on this show existed between a boy and his dog. Walt had lived with his mother up until her recent death. He was on the plane with his father, a stranger, since he was supposed to go and live with this man. It was a tough transition after the crash for everyone, especially a child… a child who lost his dog!

Finally, though, Vincent was found, and Walt and his dad, Michael, even made strides, got to know each other and shared a real connection.

Worst: Michael & Sun

Speaking of Michael… He had some dramatic moments with Sun. He accidentally interrupted her while she was taking a sponge bath in the jungle. She told him, before anyone else, that she actually knew English. When there was an argument between Sun and Jin, Michael tried to step in, but Sun slapped him. And this was after Jin and Michael had already gotten into a physical fight, as well.

They were friends… It was just unconventional and not always something that led to the best outcomes!

Best: Jin & Sawyer

Jin, Sun’s husband, grew to really enjoy Sawyer of all people. When Sawyer got shot, Jin jumped into the water to save him. They were imprisoned together. Sawyer taught Jin how to speak English. They even worked together for years as DHARMA Initiative security officers!

Plus, at the end of Jin’s life, he asked Jack to save Sawyer instead of saving him and Sun. That is true love and friendship right there.

Worst: Jack & Locke

Locke and Jack on the island on Lost

One of the most intense relationships existed between Jack and Locke. They butted heads a lot, as they were strong and smart leaders on the island. However, Locke did things like keep the hatch a secret and destroy a submarine that was going to be used to leave the island.

They respected each other, though, and Jack was the only person who went to Locke’s funeral. And when The Man in Black looked like Locke, Jack itted that Locke was right and that he wished he could have told him that. Therefore, this was a bittersweet friendship, with a few more downs than ups.
