Lost was on the air from 2004 to 2010, telling the story of a group of people who crashed onto a strange island. From a smoke monster, polar bears, and The Others, to love triangles, wanting to go home then having to go back, there was so much to keep fans hooked!

One of the main series!

I Just Shot A Bear

Josh Holloway as Sawyer in Lost, looking smug and holding a gun

If something went missing on the island or if anyone needed anything at all, they knew to check with Sawyer. He was not afraid to take what wasn’t his and stock up on supplies… like guns. Once he even said, “I saw a guy lying there with an ankle holster, so I took his gun. I thought it might come in handy. Guess what? I just shot a bear!”

At first, people did not feel safe when he had a gun. But the first time they came into with a polar bear of all things, Sawyer did take care of it!

A Doctor Playing Golf

When things were pretty stressful and scary in the beginning, Hurley surprised and pleased everyone by setting up a golf course. When Sawyer heard the news, he said the following line, regarding Jack: “A doctor playing golf? Boy howdy, now I've heard everything. What's next, a cop eating a doughnut?”

He was always there with a sarcastic comment, whether anyone wanted to hear it or not. He may have not always been super considerate, as he said what he thought, but he did have some hilarious quotes.

What's That Got To Do With My Headaches?

Now, Jack and Sawyer did not always get along, which certainly was proved during an examination that took place, after Sawyer was experiencing headaches.

Jack asked him if he had ever been with a prostitute or had an STD. Sawyer didn’t think that had a lot to do with his headaches, so he walked away, saying “Go to hell, Doc.” The doc’s opinion? Sawyer just needed glasses!

With A Gun

Some more sarcasm came when Libby asked Sawyer how he got shot. His reply? “With a gun.”

Did he know that is not what she meant? Yes. Was he just being difficult? Yes. Did he annoy people with these little comments (which did provide comedic relief at times)? Yes. But, deep down, this man was also a sensitive and sweet guy… It just took him a while to open up, be real and show his care for loved ones. Desperate times call for desperate measures, though!

Time Travel’s A B***h

As true fans know, things got even crazier on this show when time travel was incorporated into the plot. During that time, Sawyer told Juliet that he saw Kate delivering Claire's baby. Juliet told him that was two months ago, to which he said this: “Time travel's a b***h.”

It was a very on-brand and true statement, too! The time travel did add another element of drama, but it was: a. Hard to keep up with who was when and b. It caused even more issues for this group of survivors.

Of Course I’m Serious

Up next is another one of this character’s amazing quotes, full of humor and sarcasm: “Baby, I am tied to a tree in a jungle of mystery. I just got tortured by a damn spinal surgeon and a gen-u-ine I-raqi. Of course I'm serious.” It was all true, as he was tied up and he did get tortured, so he must have been very serious in this moment, when talking to Kate!

I’m A Complex Guy, Sweetheart

On a similar note, this is one of Sawyer’s most notable lines: “I'm a complex guy, sweetheart.”

It was short and sweet and, yes, sarcastic. It was also a fact, though. His name was not really Sawyer. Despite stealing and cheating, he enjoyed reading classic novels. Even though he acted like a tough guy, he had a soft and sensitive side. And fans, as well as a select few of his peers, got to see all of this and more throughout this series.

He Deserves To Suffer

At one point in time, Sawyer spoke these words: “I ain't gonna kill Jack. He deserves to suffer on this rock just like the rest of us.”

There were plenty of times when it was unclear if one character would take out another or not. Sawyer did not want to do this to Jack, however, as he said he wanted him to suffer. The real reason was probably that he actually liked and respected the guy! Still, they all did have their fair share of suffering in this place.

Who The Hell Is Hugo?

Another hilarious quote came along about Hurley: “Who the hell is Hugo, and how's he got 160 million dollars to leave to his mom?”

Just as Sawyer’s name was not really Sawyer, Hurley’s name was not really Hurley. When they all crashed onto the island, no one was super eager to share their real, true, raw backstories. Therefore, it took a bit of time before anyone found out that, say, Hurley’s name was Hugo and that he won the lotto, making him really rich.

Let Me Do What I Do

Last but not least, there was this exchange… Jack asked Sawyer what they should do, and Sawyer replied he was working on it, while reading a book. “I heard once Winston Churchill read a book every night, even during the Blitz. He said it made him think better. It's how I like to run things. I think. I'm sure that doesn't mean that much to you, 'cause back when you were calling the shots, you pretty much just reacted. See, you didn't think, Jack, and as I recall, a lot of people ended up dead.”

Jack responded that he got them off the island, but Sawyer pointed out that they were right back where they started. He then finished with this: “So I'm gonna go back to reading my book, and I'm gonna think, 'cause that's how I saved your a** today. And that's how I'm gonna save Sayid's tomorrow. All you gotta do is go home, get a good night's rest. Let me do what I do.”
