Some of Marvel Comics' best romances have stood the test of time, such as Spider-Man and Mary-Jane Watson, just to name a few. It's natural that not all pairings are going to be a success, however, some Marvel romances are so putrid, they remain the worst romances in comics, period.
Pairing two iconic characters together is risky, but it can pay off if done right. However, when romantic pairings are made for shock value, it leads to some pretty disgusting ideas - whether intentional by the creative team or not. While there are plenty of mismatches in the page of Marvel Comics, three romances stand out as the worst the publisher has ever conceived.
Hulk and She-Hulk
In Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's 'Old Man Logan' arc in Wolverine, a group of characters called the Hulk Gang are introduced. The hillbillies are the result of first-cousins Hulk and She-Hulk mating. In the future alternate reality, Jennifer Walters was the only person the Hulk could have sex with due to their Hulked-out enhancements - so, despite being related, the two bred. The result was a group of inbred hillbillies Hulks who had a penchant for violence. Storywise, it's not the most egregious example on this list, but still, having the two first-cousins have sex and have children is appalling. It's intentionally appalling, but still gross nonetheless.
Ultimate Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch
Ultimates 3 by Jeph Loeb and Joe Madureira is a poorly written comic book with a plethora of questionable creative choices. However, the worst decision in the entire run was the decision to make Ultimates 3 was filled with bizarre attempts at sex appeal.
Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn
The 'Spider-Gwen.
We wish we could forget these romantic pairings. However, for better or worse, they are part of Marvel Comics history - that doesn't mean you have to like or agree with them, though.
