MW2's Santa Seña Might Further The Divide Between Casual And Competitive Players
Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer includes a large variety of new and returning maps, each of which can be played in different game modes. Santa Seña makes for a unique experience that focuses on chaos and, eventually, long shootouts as cars lose their ability to instantly kill anyone around them. The long single-lane map littered with nothing but the cover provided by hazardous cars has definitely made it stand out amongst other design choices. While it can be played in modes that include respawns, Santa Seña’s single-life mode has made navigating the congested highway a difficult endeavor.
Skill-based matchmaking has caused many complaints in competitive games like MW2 as of late, and it seems like issues with Santa Seña’s map mechanics highlight this divide. Casual players seem to be ive of the hectic pace and new direction, while more hardcore fans claim Santa Seña is riddled with design flaws, and are calling it the game's worst map. While it's not the most technical map, it provides a fun experience for those who don't want to be competitive. However, those who are aiming to test their skills have a point; their enjoyment of the game stems from an amount of skill that can’t be properly utilized while surrounded by a lethal amount of exploding cars.
Although this divide is sure to grow as more content releases, Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer launch still has a lot to offer. Whether or not players enjoy the new additions to the game, they can rest assured that it will continue to evolve over the coming years. New maps will hopefully follow Santa Seña’s lead and add new ideas to the ever-growing franchise, while still keeping in tune with its more competitive side.
