Marvel Studios has barely tapped into Oscar Isaac's hero hasn't returned since the Moon Knight finale, and Marvel doesn't seem to have any plans for the character at the moment.

In an interview with ComicBook at the Epic Universe park's official opening, Moon Knight creator Jeremy Slater clarified that it's up to Marvel and Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige to bring back Moon Knight and integrate it into the MCU. Slater voices his interest in seeing Moon Knight in live-action again, but makes it clear that he has no input on when or where Oscar Isaac's portrayal could appear. Slater says:

“Talk to Kevin Feige, Talk to Oscar Isaac. I think the ball’s really in their court,” Slater said. “It’s as much or as little Moon Knight as Oscar wants to do. Kevin’s the guy with the master plan, and I think when he comes up with a way to really incorporate Moon Knight into there … It’s my hope that we’re gonna see him again, but I’m as curious as the rest of you guys.”

Moon Knight was one of the MCU projects Marvel produced back when a large output was the studio's top priority. Following a drastic change of plans in 2024, Marvel Studios is focusing on a smaller yearly slate, and live-action Disney+ series like Moon Knight, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Ironheart will be few and far between. That said, there's still a lot of untapped potential, as Moon Knight's fifty-year Marvel Comics history can attest to.

Marvel Can Do Much More With Moon Knight Than What The MCU Has Already Done

The MCU's Moon Knight series only explores the basics of the titular character's comic book lore and changes a few key details. It introduces different takes on Marc Spector and Steven Grant, as well as Khonshu's manipulative relationship with his avatar and the mythological background behind Moon Knight's power. Visually, the Moon Knight and Mr. Knight costumes are lifted directly from recent comics, though the MCU departs from the source material and assigns them to each of Moon Knight's main alters. Nevertheless, one season isn't enough to cover everything there is to explore about Moon Knight.

Moon Knight has an incredibly complicated relationship with his secret identities, so it's no surprise that he has even more than most fans know.

Marvel Studios' Moon Knight leaves out significant parts of Moon Knight’s comic history. It doesn’t explore Moon Knight villains like Raoul Bushman or Sun Knight, ing characters like Frenchie or Marlene, or the hero's street-level crime-fighting roots. The show also sidesteps some of Moon Knight's darker comic traits, especially his brutal approach to hand-to-hand combat and his bladed weapon mastery.

What Moon Knight Stories Marvel Could Adapt Next

Moon Knight's Show Already Set The Stage For Oscar Isaac's Next MCU Appearance

Future live-action Moon Knight stories could dive deeper into the hero's detective skills by adapting elements from Warren Ellis and Declan Shalvey’s Moon Knight (2014), or into Marc Spector’s complex psyche by adapting new elements from Jeff Lemire’s 2016 Moon Knight run. Marvel Studios could also integrate Moon Knight into the Avengers with an adaptation of 202's Age of Khonshu, where Marc steals powers from Avengers to stop Mephisto, or pay off 's post-credits scene with a full season 2 starring Jake Lockley, incorporating elements from the character's 1980s appearances.
