Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, episode #9My Hero Academia: Vigilantes' new hero, Koichi, is a guy with a pretty average Quirk--or at least, that's how it appears from the outside. With new revelations learned in episode #9, however, it's becoming clear that Koichi's Quirk is actually quite different from what everyone believes it to be.

Koichi's Quirk is officially known as "Slide and Glide." It requires that he have at least three points of with the ground in order to use it, and it generates a repulsive force that causes Koichi to hover slightly, allowing him to move frictionlessly at a moderate speed. On its face, it's not that great of a Quirk; three points of means he can only use it while down low to the ground, and Koichi's top speed isn't that great. In fact, until some coaching from Ingenium, Koichi had a very difficult time stopping and turning using the Quirk. But what if his Quirk actually had another dimension to it?

Koichi's Quirk is Changing and Evolving

Vigilantes is Showing the Evolution of Koichi's Quirk

In episode #9, a cat infected with the drug Trigger fused with a bus, causing it to go careening wildly out of control. Koichi, his mother, and Makoto happen to be aboard that bus, and Ingenium arrives to help them evacuate the bus before it crashes. Nearly everyone is able to get off, but Makoto ends up the last one aboard as the catbus takes off at high speed, making it difficult for Ingenium to catch up. Koichi catches up with Ingenium and together, they attempt to rescue Makoto. Koichi makes it aboard the bus and grabs her, but not before the bus goes careening off the road.

Koichi, unable to reach Ingenium, discovers that he's able to use his Quirk to boost himself in the air, generating repulsive forces without any points of with the ground. His Quirk is able to generate enough lift that he and Makoto don't go crashing into the ground, and both survive the incident. Afterward, Koichi's mother recounts that Koichi used to fly around as a baby, but she discouraged him from doing it so much that he has essentially forgotten that he's able to do that with his Quirk. This suggests that Koichi's Quirk isn't quite what everyone thinks it is.

Koichi's Quirk Could Be Way More Versatile Than Expected

Slide and Glide is For More Than Just Sliding

Nejire Hado using her Quirk, Wave Motion.

It was stated in the main My Hero Academia series that it's not uncommon for young people to discover new facets of their Quirks, which they can then change on their official Quirk registration file if it turns out to be substantially different from what it was believed to be. "Slide and Glide" seems to be a somewhat common Quirk, with the three Sturm Und Drang Brothers all possessing a very similar Quirk, "Glide and Slide." Koichi's Quirk is also similar to that of the rogue hero Slidin' Go in My Hero Academia.

Koichi's version of the Quirk, however, seems to be much more versatile. If it merely generates repulsive forces, and it's clear that Koichi doesn't actually need with the ground, then it seems like it's more of an energy-based Quirk, similar to Nejire Hado's. The fact that Koichi doesn't even really seem to know what his Quirk is capable of seems to reflect the fact that Quirk use is so strictly regulated that many people may not even know what their Quirk truly is. It will certainly be interesting to see My Hero Academia: Vigilantes continue as Koichi learns more about his Quirk.
