There are seven movies in the Predator franchise featuring the deadly Yautja Hunters. Alien Vs. Predator (2004)

Crossovers are inherently fascinating, and after the Xenomorph skull appeared in Predator 2, the idea of a Predator movie crossing over with Alien has always been appealing. This led to a comic book series, which was eventually adapted into a theatrical release. In 2004, 20th Century Studios delivered on that concept with Alien Vs. Predator to a less than stellar reception.

The biggest mistake this entry made was making two of the more brutal sci-fi monsters and bringing them down to PG-13. It's essentially a popcorn action film, and it can be a lot of fun to watch the two titular monsters battle in Antarctica. For anyone who wants to see the movie on streaming, it is available to watch on Hulu.

Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)

Even though this sequel to AVP brings back an R-rating, Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem is often viewed as one of the worst of both Alien and Predator movies. It features some of the most forgettable characters and the gore is often too much of an overcompensation, coming off as tasteless.

The star Predator of AVPR is a standout, but this was matched with poor lighting, which has become one of the movie's more infamous aspects. Most of the scenes in the movie's second half look like black screens, but anyone who wants to stream it can find it on Hulu.

Shane Black's take on the Predator franchise brought things around to the idea that the Predators were smart, calculating aliens, and then turned things on its head by making one of them a hero.

Black also brought a new level of nastiness to the franchise with new alien creatures controlled by the Predators as a sort of attack dogs. However, the film was a box office and critical failure with Black saying he tried something different and it just didn't work. The film is currently streaming on Hulu.

Prey (2022)

Prey is the first Predator film to be made and released after being purchased by Disney, and it seems to be a step in the right direction for the franchise. This prequel is set in the 1700s and goes back to a more grounded take on the Predator, focusing on the survival action-horror aspect of the original. With a likable protagonist, gritty action, and a new take on the Yautja Hunters, Prey is one of the better examples of a prequel done right.

It shows how effective it is with fans praising the prequel as one of, if not the best, of the franchise. It quickly became Hulu's biggest hit film and shows that Predator still has so much potential. However, this is also a movie that can only be streamed in one place and is not available to rent or purchase digitally, so anyone who wants to see it has to go to Hulu or buy a physical copy.

Where To Rent & Buy The Predator Movies

The entire Predator franchise moved to Hulu for streaming in March 2025. However, people who want to see or own the movies but don't want to subscribe to Hulu can do so at most major online retailers. All the movies except for Prey are available to rent and purchase at Amazon, Apple TV, Fandango-At-Home, and the Microsoft Store.

They are mostly always the same price, although Amazon has a few of the films for 20 cents less for rentals. To purchase the movies digitally, all but Prey are also available at most major retailers.

The cost of the movies is normally between $14.99 and $19.99, and it varies based on which movie it is and where it is for sale. Most of the Predator movies can also be purchased as a bundle deal to save money. They are also available on Amazon for people who want physical copies. While Prey is not available to buy digitally, Amazon does have the physical Blu-ray and 4K for sale.

The Future Of The Predator Franchise

The future of the Predator franchise remains in question. There is no telling what is going to happen and who is going to make the next movies. With Prey such a huge critical success, yet relegated to Hulu streaming, it seems that Dan Trachtenberg would have the first dibs on making a new movie. That seems to be coming true, although it is not confirmed. There is supposed to be a secret Predator movie Trachtenberg directed that is set to release in 2025, according to Fox president Steve Asbell (via THR).

"Yes, a Predator movie will have a theatrical. I’ll tell you very simply. After Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2. And we’re like, “What do you want to do?” And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We’ve actually done two of them.

Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year."

The Trachtenberg theatrical Predator movie is called Predator: Badlands. The secret movie will arrive first (likely on streaming) and then . Predator: Badlands will hit theaters on November 7, 2025. The theatrical movie will take place in the future when a Predator arrives on an alien wasteland while two sisters learn about their horrifying past. At the time, that is all that is known about the secret movie and the next theatrical release, other than the fact that Elle Fanning is the main star.
