While Nick’s and Lawrence’s deaths are heartbreaking, they fit into the storyline. I believe Lawrence felt guilty about his role in Gliead. In many ways this was a penance for him. I suspect if he had the opportunity to, he would have tried to get Nick out. But Nick was never completely dedicated to Gilead. His actions were to protect June.
