I've Always Loved Astrid, But Live-Action How To Train Your Dragon Can Improve Her Arc In One Way
It's not about realism. If you can't understand a person of color in a Scandinavian country—not even an actual Scandinavian country, but a fuex Scandinavian aesthetic—then your imagination is severely lacking. It is insane to me how everyone keeps talking about the casting as if that is remotely the most criticizable thing about this movie. I care more about the fact the CGI and costuming looks so underdone. I care more about the fact this movie is being made at all. But no we have to have a conversation about a "realistic" Scandinavian aesthetic that's not even authentically Scandinavian, it's not even authentically Viking—there were no horned helmets in reality. The dragons in Scandinavian folklore do not remotely resemble the dragons in this franchise. Why do you care so much about a fantasy when it comes to race?!
