I kinda feel sorry for you for having waited so long for 6... And I suppose 7. Although I'm not a fan of it, personally.
That said. Playing 8 and 9 before the previous titles is probably the best way to enjoy them. You can't see the flaws as clearly when you don't know how good a game can be.
I just hope you've play FF6's only rival.... Chrono Trigger.
