Since the game Project L received an update on August 1, many have been wondering if it will be free-to-play. Project L is the working title for a League of Legends 2D fighting game, which was first announced in late 2019. Although a release date is yet to be disclosed, fans have been waiting patiently for further information regarding the gameplay, characters, and cost of Project L.
Project L is being developed by Riot Games, and follows the trend of popular platform fighters such as Warner Bros. Games’ MultiVersus, which may take Smash Bros.' crown despite still being in open beta. Given the resurgence of fighting games this year and the anticipation surrounding Project L’s eventual release, its launch will no doubt be extremely popular with both League of Legends players and newcomers alike.
According to the most recent update, Project L will be free-to-play. The game has been rumored to be free-to-play since its initial announcement, as other Riot Games titles such as League of Legends and Valorant are also free-to-play. However, although there has been no confirmation as to whether the game will include an in-game currency or microtransactions, fans can likely expect Project L to be monetized given that Valorant, League of Legends (which increased its coin prices this year), and fighting game MultiVersus all offer optional customization alternatives, extra characters, and skins that are only available via microtransactions as part of the gameplay.
Project L Will Feature League Of Legends' Strongest Fighters
Alongside the news that the game will be free-to-play, Riot Games also revealed that the priestess Ilaoi will be ing Project L’s expanding roster of fighters, which currently only includes five other characters: Jinx, Ekko, Darius, Ahri, and Katarina. Ilaoi is described in a champions continuously added in the League of Legends universe, Project L gameplay will undoubtedly offer a multitude of dynamic fighting builds and battle styles.
With the annual fighting game tournament Evolution Championship Series 2022 set to begin on August 5, Riot Games may choose to reveal more information about Project L in the coming weeks. Since many of the core fighting mechanics are confirmed to have been fully developed, it seems that Riot Games will now focus on increasing the League of Legends character roster and developing the gameplay and system mechanics. Fans can therefore hope to see continued updates on Project L’s characters and gameplay in the near future, with an eventual release as early as 2023.
