As players head to the end of the Quarry in Chapter 4 of Resident Evil 4 Remake, a monstrosity of a boss called El Gigante stands in their way unless they can beat the horrifying creature. Very different from the lake monster from before, El Gigante can only be brought down with the weapons in Leon's arsenal. With slow movements but powerful attacks, this boss could spell an untimely end for players who are not prepared to go into the fight.
El Gigante has a lot of health, more than even some foes fought later in the story. The biggest strategy to keep in mind against this boss is to not waste ammo and find resources when you can, as El Gigante will break crates around the arena that could have herbs or ammo inside. Players are recommended to purchase the TMP weapon from the Merchant before going into the Quarry to make the fight easier, with the gun itself only costing 10,000 Pesetas on Standard difficulty.
Rescue the Dog First Before the Boss
The number one option players have against El Gigante comes from rescuing a dog locked in a bear trap outside the Village Chief's Manor earlier in the story. The adorable canine breaks RE4 Remake's cursed vendetta against animals by helping Leon throughout the fight, acting as a distraction of sorts.
The dog will even bite at El Gigante's feet, causing the boss to fall down and giving Leon a chance to shoot it a great many times before it can get back up.
Defeating El Gigante in RE4 Remake
The only objective in phase 1 of the El Gigante boss fight remains shooting the beast as often as possible, with shots to its head dealing increased damage. El Gigante attacks with heavy, slow strikes that deal a lot of damage, but players are able to evade under the creature's legs to dodge if it gets too close.
The biggest attack El Gigante has in this phase sees a large tentacle reach out and grab Leon, dragging him close to the boss for a grabbing attack. Players need to mash R2 fast in order to break free, stabbing El Gigante's hands in the process.
Enough shots to this massive enemy causes it to go into phase 2, where a large parasite emerges from its back. No gameplay changes from RE4 Remake affect what players need to do next, since they just need to deal more damage to El Gigante and cause it to fall.
This exposes the tentacle, which players are able to Melee through a prompt that shows up when El Gigante hits the ground. Doing this enough times lets players eventually defeat El Gigante in Resident Evil 4 Remake and collect the Yellow Diamond item to progress the story.
