A fan-made trailer demonstrates what the newly announced developers are already utilizing Unreal Engine 5 for their newest projects, experimenting with the new technical capabilities and realism it allows for.
2005’s Resident Evil 4 was one of Capcom’s crowning achievements. Leon S. Kennedy’s horrific helter-skelter adventure throughout the outskirts of Spain to rescue the president’s daughter is regarded as a milestone title to fans of both Resident Evil and the horror game genre itself. A major part of that success was because of many ambitious risks Capcom took in development. RE4 utilizes a full third-person dynamic camera instead of the static, cinematic camera iconic of the early series and even eschewed traditional zombies for a new type of enemy, the Ganados. With the recent announcement of the Resident Evil 4 remake, fans are eager to see how Capcom plans to improve upon what many already consider to be a perfect product, which, ironically, is a risk all its own.
Recently, graphics design studio Unreal Engine 5 to remake GTA: Vice City, includes features several independent panning shots of the woodland areas of Spain, showcasing breathtaking lighting and shadow effects. There’s also a shot that simulates a 'free camera mode' feature in which the camera pans around Leon to show off the dynamic visuals the engine is capable of.
Though the official Resident Evil 4 Remake will be using the RE Engine, an amazing engine itself, it’s intriguing to see a snippet of dynamic gameplay recreated in Unreal Engine 5, even if it is just a fan recreation. The fact that such beautiful and faithful renditions of so many games - including a recent UE5 Red Dead Redemption remake - can be recreated within the engine serves as a testament to its versatility. As Unreal Engine 5 is freely available for everyone, several fans and would-be developers have utilized the engine to develop games or fan-made projects honoring their favorite franchises.
When Capcom finally reveals the gameplay of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, it will hopefully resemble what TeaserPlay has demonstrated the remake could be capable of. As the Unreal Engine continues to be one of the most versatile and accessible engines to work with, fans will continue to impress with such dedicated ion projects. When the potential of Unreal Engine 5 is fully realized, it will be interesting to see what new levels fan projects will ascend to.
