With the release of Resident Evil Village coming soon, new details keep pouring out via trailers, screenshots, and even demos. Following up from the events of Resident Evil 7, the narrative of the game is still mostly a mystery. One of the biggest mysteries concerns the true identity of Mother Miranda, who appears to be the main antagonist of the game. But could Mother Miranda actually be Mia Winters? It certainly seems like it.

So far, the only footage shown of Mother Miranda has her wearing a mask that covers most of her face. Other Resident Evil Village villains, like Lady Dimitrescu and Karl Heisenberg, apparently work for her (and fear her). Based on the high-res images shared by Capcom, though, the face behind Mother Miranda's mask looks a lot like Mia Winters, the wife of RE8's protagonist Ethan.

Mother Miranda's eyes, chin, and mouth all look extraordinarily similar to Mia's same features. Beyond that, it would also explain why Mother Miranda wears a mask. If this theory is true, then her real identity is a surprise - and someone players already know - which explains why her face is always covered. This could also explain why Chris shoots Mia in Resident Evil Village's opening and takes her and Ethan's baby, Rosemary.

Why Mia Being Mother Miranda In Resident Evil Village Makes Sense

In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Mia was already a recurring antagonist for much of the game, due to her being one of infected by Eveline. However, even before Mia was infected, she led a secret life as an operative for The Connections. So, given her already secret past, it's certainly possible there's an even deeper secret at play here. Perhaps Chris shoots Mia believing she's Mother Miranda, which would explain why Chris takes Rosemary away.

There are, of course, other possibilities. Perhaps Mother Miranda and Mia are twin sisters, or perhaps through some strange infection (or Resident Evil-style twist) Rosemary grows up quickly to become Mother Miranda herself. However, it seems increasingly likely that Mia and Mother Miranda are closely connected in some way. The inciting incident of Village's plot involves Mia's baby being taken away, and based on the demos released, there are a lot of engravings of a figure who looks like Mother Miranda with a fetus to be found around the titular village, presumably meaning Rosemary has something to do with the mysterious ceremony mentioned in trailers.

Of course, the most crucial evidence here is still the high-res screenshots of Mother Miranda, which appear to show Mia is behind the mask. Based on what's known about Resident Evil Village's plot and Mia already, this could actually make sense. Although, fans probably won't know for sure until the game releases.
