The most recent Resident Evil games to be released include RE3 and Resident Evil Resistance, both of which came out in April of 2020. While the former drew unanimous praise, the latter garnered mixed reviews. Here are some of the pros and cons of Resident Evil Resistance.

Why It Failed: Multiplayer Mode

Resident-Evil-Resistance-5

One of the biggest gripes of the entire Resident Evil franchise comes whenever the game features a multiplayer mode. Again, one of the reasons Resident Evil Resistance failed is because of its diversion away from the single-player mode that made the game so popular in the first place.

The biggest problem with the multiplayer mode is the overreliance of the Survivors' teammates to find success. No matter how well you play, if your match doesn't hold its own, then it's all for naught.

Worth Returning: Mastermind

While it's much easier to be defeated as a Mastermind, the character is still worth playing upon returning to Resistance. The reason is that it offers one of the most unique and thrilling experiences in the entire series.

Rather than appearing in material form, Masterminds command the game through a collection of security cameras that are placed in strategic locations on the Maps. However, these positions are fixed and stationary and have limited aim. Masterminds can also control The Environment Interaction System to manipulate the locations to give them an advantage over Survivors.

Why It Failed: Lengthy Loading & Matchmaking

Resident-Evil-Resistance-6

The most maddening thing about playing Resident Evil Resistance online is its lengthy loading time and nonexistent matchmaking engine which makes the entire experience very laggy.

It can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes at times just for the game to pair you with an online partner, driving gamers without saintlike patience away before they can even a lobby. Also, depending on your match, the game will place novice players into some of the most difficult levels right from the start, making the experience less enjoyable.

Worth Returning: Original Characters

Another reason to return to Resistance is the cool assortment of never-before-seen characters and storylines mixed with old ones in both Mastermind and Survival modes. While you start out as Mastermind Annette Birkin as the only playable character, four others can be unlocked as you progress through the game. They include Daniel Fabron, Alex Wesker, Ozwell Spencer, and Nikolai Zinoviev.

Moreover, Mastermind characters are customizable through their supercharged mutated versions. Meanwhile, Survivors must advance their rankings by unlocking a series of skills as the game progresses.

Why It Failed: Unbalanced

Another prevalent gripe about Resident Evil Resistance is how severely unbalanced the game is. First of all, the queues for Mastermind mode are not proportionate with Survivor mode. Second of all, it is much easier to win the game as a Survivor than it is as a Mastermind, which makes the game unbalanced to the point of near futility. Masterminds also have the ability to slow the game down and force players to disconnect and be defeated by default.

Worth Returning: Restrained Microtransactions

One of the biggest issues with online games is the preponderance of in-app purchases that will rob you blind if you let them, and one of the reasons to return to Resistance is how restrained it is in of microtransactions.

Instead, the loot-boxes full of weapons, ammo, and other invaluable items cannot be purchased using real currency. Moreover, the loot-boxes never offer the same item twice, allowing you to stockpile a versatile arsenal while advancing through the game.

Why It Failed: Glitchy

The game is littered with its fair share of bugs and glitches that driven gamers mad since its release nine months ago. The game was easier to navigate and more enjoyable to play before the character of Nicholai was added.

Some of the glitches include doors that lock without any button to unlock them, the lack of revival prompts for fallen teammates, encountering random resets when attempting to exit rooms, getting strapped in an animated defusing mine, and the list goes on and on...

Worth Returning: Mission-Based

Part of Resistance's appeal comes from its mission-based objectives that require genuine teamwork to achieve them with optimum results. This not simply a survival-horror first-person shooter game, but one that requires a thoughtful strategy to conquer its bosses.

The game offers daily missions that reward plays for their progression, something atypical of asymmetrical video games. These missions also include new locations and facilities such as casinos and amusement parks that come with excellent graphics and absorbing atmospherics. Of course, being a bundled freebie with RE3 also doesn't hurt.

Why It Failed: Clunky Gameplay

Resident-Evil-Resistance-1

Another rampant complaint about Resident Evil Resistance includes its clunky gameplay, especially when engaging in ground battles with some of the poorly rendered animated foes.

The rocky and often laggy game engine makes it frustrating for players to get into a flow, find a rhythm, and progress through the game smoothly. Technical issues are commonplace with peer-to-peer online multiplayer modes, but Resistance has too many to compete with any other semi-compotent modern-day multiplayer offerings.

Worth Returning: New Outcomes

The biggest reason not to return to a video game is knowing the outcome once you've beaten it for the first time. This is not something to worry about with Resident Evil Resistance, as every game plays out in a different fashion.

With a visceral, enthralling, and break-neck speed of gameplay, the game remains unpredictable through its series of different paths, circumstances, and unforeseen outcomes. The number one reason to play the game is that it offers a disparate narrative every time you play it.
