Riot Games has announced a surprise new addition to the with more TV shows on the way. It also has Legends of Runeterra, a free-to-play digital card game that competes with the likes of Hearthstone and is focused on various League champions and characters. Now, Riot Games is getting ready to expand League of Legends into the real world with Project K.
Project K is a new League of Legends-themed trading card game developed in-house by Riot Games. The game features decks built around specific League of Legends champions, with each champion having different gameplay styles and abilities. Rather than mimicking the abilities of champions in League of Legends, Project K will instead use abilities that make thematic sense with the lore and powers of each character. The game will both 1v1 and 2v2 play. The game will be released in 2025, with China slated as the first market for release.

Interestingly, Project K seems to have different mechanics and objectives than Legends of Runeterra, the digital card game also developed by Riot Games. Players get two Runes per turn, which they can spend on different cards and abilities. Additionally, the game will feature cards from all of League of Legends' various regions and also feature art from various Riot Games and projects. Another notable variation is that Project K s multiple styles of play and uses a system of taking Battlefields instead of a player health system.

While any League of Legends card game will be extremely popular, Riot is staggering the game's rollout across regions. Riot will launch the game in China and is currently seeking publishing partners in the United States and EU. Competitive and organized play will also be ed by Riot. Project K Can't Rely On League Of Legends Popularity
Project K seems to be a cool project and it capitalizes on a League of Legends IP that's enjoying increased popularity thanks to Arcane. However, there are a ton of new TCGs either out now or due to come out next year. Many of them, like the Gundam TCG or Disney Lorcana, also feature popular IPs with crossover appeal.
The key to Project K's success will be robust, organized play and engaging and unique gameplay. Offering multiple forms of gameplay, with the option of up to four players, is a solid start. However, for Project K to really stand out, it can't rely solely on League of Legends fans for .
