It's spectacular that stay running for over a decade now. It certainly had the potential to go even longer, but all good things must come to an end, as this season will be the last. One has to ire how well its writers have done with creating strong material for such a long period of time. However, while this show has been able to build a strong legacy, it did make some questionable decisions along the way.
This is certainly presented by the fact that they ended a lot of storylines far too early. In fact, one could even argue that some of them never should have ended in the first place. Potential for even greater content from this series was there if they had kept them going. That is not to say that the series has failed because of it, as it of course has still been a marvelous show regardless. Yet, taking a deeper dive into some of these ended storylines shows that it could have been even more wonderful.
Fiona and Jimmy's Relationship
It was hard seeing the completion of Fiona and Jimmy's relationship, as it was due to an outside cause. Jimmy's life of crime would ultimately be the downfall of their relationship, and it was so disappointing to fans.
The connection between her and Jimmy was easily the strongest of Fiona's relationships, and it would have been nice to see them get back together, had Jimmy stayed on the show. Her romantic storylines never got better than this for most fans.
Ethel As Kev And V's Foster Child
Kev was a complete sweetheart when it came to Ethel, as he worked so hard trying to make her feel part of the family. Although Veronica was a bit cold at times at the idea of it, she eventually warmed up, as she was sad when Ethel ran away.
It would have been nice to see Ethel stay a part of their family, as she was completely brainwashed from her previous upbringing. Although she found happiness with her love interest, it would have been cool to see her character stay and be part of the gang.
Lip As A Genius
Lip was immensely smart at the beginning of the series, as he could have gotten into any college. However, once college started, his self-destructiveness would lead to him being expelled, as he vandalized a plethora of cars on campus.
As the show has progressed, Lip's intelligence has been completely cut out. He once was elite when it came to it, but the show has since moved him to an entirely different path. It would have been awesome to see him go back to school and once again focus on robotics.
Sheila Simply Being On The Show
Sheila was a stupendous side character in this series, so it was hard to see her go away. Although she would receive a happy ending, as she overcame her agoraphobia and traveled across the country, it would have been awesome for her to stay.
She offered a lot of comedy with some ridiculous scenes. She also was simply a likable character, as she was extremely caring and nice, which is quite the rarity when it comes to characters on this show.
Sammi As The Family's Antagonist
Sammi was a fantastic antagonist for the family, as all she did was wreak havoc the minute she entered the Gallagher's lives. She was easy to hate, which of course was the character's job, but she was very entertaining regardless.
The way her storyline ended was rather gruesome, yet random, as she went to jail for attempted murder. It was definitely a shame that she never came back, as she could have caused more issues for the family in later episodes.
Lip And Mandy's Relationship
The relationship between Lip and Mandy certainly had its rough moments, but it would have been great to see the pair work it out. Mandy loved Lip to such a high degree. She also helped him so much, as she even filled out college applications for him to better his future.
Lip was sadly extremely cold to Mandy, even though she was a wonderful girlfriend to him. It would have been great to see a now matured Lip manage to work things out with Mandy. However, with him having a child and starting a life with Tami, it's very unlikely at this stage.
Kev And V's Third Child
While it seemed impossible for Kev and V to have children, they went to V's mother Carol for help. From there, Carol would have Dominic. Kev and V would of course end up having kids of their own too, so they let Carol keep Dominic.
Although this was a nice sentiment from the pair, it would have been nice to see Dominic around often too. He was technically Kevin and Veronica's child, so it would have made sense to have him interact with the twins far more often.
Carl And The Military
Carl was right on his way to ing the military, as he was making a life for himself in military school. It was a big step for him, as it provided him with structure and kept him away from his previous life of crime.
Yet, he would end up being banned from ing the military in the end, as he stood up for a transgender cadet. It was a rather disappointing end to this storyline, as it was entirely out of left field and ended a potential long-term life plan for Carl.
Frank And Mikey's Friendship
The friendship between Frank and Mikey was very fun to watch, so it was disappointing to see it end so suddenly. The two of them were amazing together, as they would partake in an array of schemes.
It seemed as though that Mikey was the first character that Frank showed genuine care about for a significant amount of time too. That was why seeing Mikey go back to jail to receive medical care was truly sad. Their friendship seemed like it was only going to get stronger beforehand.
Fiona As The Heart Of The Family
When Fiona left the series, it was such a huge loss. She was the most important member of the family, as she basically was the parent of her siblings. She kept everything in the house running, while also stunting her own professional growth for a long period of time.
She eventually became more independent, which was nice for sure, but it did lead to her leaving to find her own place. The show simply has not been able to replace her. Fiona will forever be known as the heart of the Gallaghers, so it's still hard accepting that she's gone.
