A new Han Solo. The cover and variant cover for Star Wars #1, set to release on May 7th, 2025, showcases a new look for everyone's favorite scruffy-looking nerf-herder. No longer "scruffy," exactly, Han Solo's new design is perfect for where his character will find himself after Return of the Jedi.

Written by Alex Segura and penciled by Phil Noto, the Star Wars series will be set after the end of Return of the Jedi and focus on the beloved characters from the original trilogy: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Han Solo.

AN EPIC NEW ADVENTURE BEGINS FOR LUKE, LEIA AND HAN IN THE WAKE OF RETURN OF THE JEDI!

- New York Times best-selling author ALEX SEGURA launches the bold next era of STAR WARS.

- LUKE SKYWALKER must defend the NEW REPUBLIC from a bloodthirsty gang of mercenaries!

- HAN SOLO investigates a deadly underworld mystery — and saves a surprising ally!

- LEIA ORGANA must grapple with a new alliance opposed to the goals of the New Republic!

During this time, Skywalker, Organa, and Solo are settling into postwar life while setting up a new government known as the New Republic after the fall of the Empire. For Princess Leia and Han Solo, this era marks the beginning of their time as a married couple and soon-to-be parents to Ben Solo.

Han Solo Sports a New Fresh-Faced Look on the Cover of Star Wars #1

Star Wars #1 Variant Cover by Leinil Francis Yu and Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Comic book cover: Han Solo in a battlefield.

The covers for the Star Wars #1 show that Han Solo has cleaned up his act - physically, at least. With neatly styled hair and a clean-shaven face, Solo's appearance shows a more mature side than in the original movie trilogy. Even his outfit is different, moving on from the black vest to a white sleeveless jacket. This new look for Han Solo possibly reflects his new role as a husband and father-to-be. Given the timeline between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, Segura and Noto's Star Wars aligns perfectly with Princess Leia's pregnancy.

Star Wars Marked Luke Skywalker's Evolution into a Jedi Master With Help From His... Lightsaber?

Now that Star Wars canon has moved beyond the original trilogy, fans finally get to see Luke becoming a fully fledged Jedi Master.

It's likely that readers will see a new and domestic side to the famously roguish Han Solo, especially given his clean-cut appearance. It would be interesting if readers were given a chance to follow along with Han and Leia as they venture into married life and parenthood, especially since it is a point of time skipped over in the movies. The comic could give fans a window into the years before The Force Awakens in comic format, when Han and Leia were happily married, expecting, and then raising their son Ben, who would eventually go on to become Kylo Ren.

What Happens After Return of the Jedi?

As Luke, Leia, and Han are featured together on both covers of Star Wars #1, it's possible that readers will see not only Leia and Han as a mother and father, but Luke as an uncle as well. With all the changes that happened in the Star Wars universe after the fall of the Empire, Han Solo going from space cowboy to a father and husband may be one of the biggest shifts.

Star Wars #1 is available May 7th, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
