  • Oh, Babylon. Some of me kind of enjoys the delicious excess of this. Other parts of me recognize that it is just too much at time, making it make sense why it did not get more Oscars attention.

  • Perhaps 2022's most underrated movie, Babylon delivers a thrilling love letter to the movie industry. With stellar performances from Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, and Brad Pitt, Babylon has a charming, gritty, yet tragic atmosphere that makes for a captivating cinematic experience. It's Oscar-nominated costume design and score help add to the spectacle, and the film definitely deserves a more mainstream appreciation.

Synopsis

Babylon is a film by director Damien Chazelle (La La Land) that focuses on characters during the great Hollywood boom - when silent films moved to talking pictures, and the medium was reinvented. During this era of decadence and glamorous lifestyles in pure excess, Babylon explores the rise and fall of fictional Hollywood greats that mirror nonfictional actors and actresses throughout American history.

It has a feverish energy that gets lost amid the reverie, and though it has a great cast, it takes too long to make a point as it meanders to its end.
