While fans from all over the world wait for Part 4 of Terrace House: Tokyo 2019-2020 to make its triumphant return to Netflix, we’ve compiled a list of the five worst and five best housemates from the past seasons (excluding the original Boys × Girls Next Door) to tide you over.
Since debuting in the early 2010s, the Japanese Terrace House mainly sees its cast partaking in casual dating, group outings, dinner prep, and roundtable discussions on how to find love and career success. But it’s Terrace House’s subtle nuances that have helped the show to garner such a worldwide fan base. So without further ado, check out the five best and five worst Terrace House housemates below.
WORST: Wez (Aloha State)
When Wez first showed up on Terrace House with his rapping skills and unique sense of style, he seemed to have a lot of potential in becoming one of the coolest housemates.
However, it was quickly and unanimously agreed upon that Wez is hand down the worst housemate to ever grace the Japanese reality series. On top of being a really boring person, Wez gossiped a lot and treated every single girl in the house poorly.
BEST: Peppe (Tokyo 2019 – 2020)
What makes Italian manga artist Peppe so great is just how genuine he is. During his stay at the house, he always managed to make the others feel good with his positive vibes and delicious home-cooked pasta dishes; he even stood up for Ruka.
Even though he wasn’t able to find love with Haruka, his dream of publishing his own manga finally came true. The moment when he purchases his debut manga at a corner store will go down as one of the best scenes in the show’s history.
WORST: Cheri (Aloha State)
Unsurprisingly Cheri also finds herself at the bottom of this list and just happens to be the only person Wez got along with during their time on the show.
Cheri, who was also cast for the Aloha State season, was one of the worst housemates because of her constant stream of negative energy and drama. On top of that, her ego was through the roof and she would say things like “You’ve lost your place on my list.”
BEST: Han-San (Boys And Girls In The City)
Most come onto the show to find true love or career fulfillment. For Han-san, he already had both. Already with a successful relationship and job as an architect, Han-san never let himself slide.
In fact he became one of the best of the house for his genuine interest in everyone and for giving the best advice. When he left the show he left the , and everyone at home watching, in tears. He truly was magic.
WORST: Yuudai (Opening New Doors)
The majority of the housemates find their way onto the show with goals of bettering themselves or to find true love, both irable things. However, some people find their way into Terrace House just to slack off and get by with little work.
Yuudai makes it onto the worst section because of his lack of trying to work hard, even when others in the house gave him ample advice and help. On top of not working, he never blinked an eye when purchasing luxury goods with money that clearly comes from his family.
BEST: Tsubasa (Opening New Doors)
Even though Tsubasa experienced a childhood tragedy, her mother died during one of her hockey practices, she continues to have a positive look on life and is super driven. What makes her one of the best housemates is her constant thoughtfulness and her pure heart.
On top of that, Tsubasa’s father also made quite an impact on fans during his short time on screen with his great love advice and soba noodle making.
WORST: Hayato (Boys And Girls In The City)
29-year-old Hayato makes the worst list for being one of the most ingenuine housemates along with being a bit of a creep. During his time in the house, he starts a “chaste” relationship with 18-year-old Rikopin and lies to the other housemates about.
It wasn’t until the rest of the house confronted the pair about their secret (they were having sex), that his true villainous nature came through.
BEST: Guy (Aloha State)
Pro-surfer Guy was on an entirely different wavelength. Although most of the time he seemed super out there, what makes Guy one of the best housemates is how genuine he is. He found pleasure in the simple things in life and was just super chill all the time.
His childlike demeanor managed to win over the heart of model Niki, and the pair ultimately shared one of the greatest kisses the series has ever seen.
WORST: Niino (Tokyo 2019 – 2020)
Niino is one of the most recent additions to the series, and going by the latest episode, is still living in the house. When he first ed, the 30-year-old seemed like he would be able to give a lot of good life advice to the house’s relatively younger residents.
However that quickly changed when his true behavior started to show, such as hanging out in the hallway to eavesdrop on conversations and being overly possessive. And who can forget that creepy beer bottle incident?
BEST: Seina (Opening New Doors, Boys And Girls Next Door)
If there can only be one Terrace House G.O.A.T., that title goes to Seina. Having appeared in the original season, which is not available on Netflix, she found her way onto the show again after her breakup with Daiki.
During her second rodeo, she managed to find love once again with Noah, and the couple is still dating today. What makes Seina so great is her ability to share everything that’s on her mind without actually offending people. She truly is a reality star queen.
